I worked in public service jobs for 35 years. I LOVE being alone!

I consider myself to be a well adjusted, easy going, chatty, 'people' person.

However, there was a time not that long ago, when I would have quite merrily machined gunned many of my so-called 'work colleagues' and quite a few of the ungrateful customers I had to deal with. Apparently, this is deemed an illegal act, so I didn't.

I guess that technically makes me 'a loner', but honestly, after a couple of beers I can be the life and soul of the party!

I like socialising. I also like being on my own. Most of all I like having the choice.
I don't agree gearheads are mostly loners, we normally get along best with other gearheads. Just as fishing enthusiasts with other fishing fans, or soccer fans, golfers, chess players, I think a pattern is emerging here...

Claud.

I generally don't like being around people. Especially ones that I have not specifically desired to be around in the first place. Holidays are not much fun for me....if ever. Now if it was just my wife and I, I would be fine with them and enjoy the time spent. If I had a decent guy friend I would probably enjoy that now and then.....but they are very hard to find (good friends) and always busy or I feel like I need to make an appointment. No thanks.
My wife is the best company for me and then my dogs. People are a distant third.

If I could live in a cave 20 miles away from anyone else, I would.
It would have to be a heated cave, though.

What's so funny about the "entertaining" types,if you've ever been around them, they're so totally fake. While they're doing their entertaining, their fake personas come out and they're all huggy and lovey dovey, but when their guests leave they start taking [censored] about all of them and their real personas return.

I feel very socially awkward and I much prefer to be alone, but going out to a bar with the wife and a few friends to see a band every now and then can be fun, for a while. If too many in the group start talking to me all at once I can easily get overwhelmed and need to get away, but I can usually fake it. Beer sure helps. I just dont like small talk, unless I'm at a car show or air show or whatever and can contribute. I just dont have much to say most times.

My online personality is completely different from my in-person personality. I can socialize on forums all day long. Not in person. Talking face to face to people I dont know is very stressful for me.

We host Christmas every year because our house is large enough for most of the family (40-50 people), and that is nothing but stress and I dread it every year, so I sometimes disappear into the man room in the basement and have a few sudsy adult beverages and tinker with my r/c planes or whatever to recharge, then I'm ok for another couple hours. There are usually so many people and so much noise with the kids and commotion I can do that without it being noticed that I'm nowhere to be found. The wife on the other hand is a social butterfly and could be in a room with 100 people for days and never leave and be happy as all get out. How we ended up together is anyone's guess.

Exactly

I consider myself fortunate to have lots of friends and colleagues that I enjoy talking to and spending time around. I don't really entertain at home, as I'm usually on the road around those friends and colleagues.

Man, do I dislike being around people that I don't know! For the most part, I don't really like talking to people in social settings. I almost never speak or greet anyone unless first spoken to or greeted first. What little social skills that I seem to have came after years of learning to compensate for generally being shy and reserved. For me, it isn't so much that I don't like people...I'd just rather not be bothered to engage them or to be engaged in social chit-chat and small talk. I don't think I'm antisocial but I'd rather not discuss "people" and their doings. If I'm around people within professions, or people with specialized knowledge and skills in areas such as the sciences, engineering, medicine, the arts, etc., I'm all ears for what they might have to say or share! Unfortunately, many people I've described as interesting seem reticent to talk about themselves, their skills and accomplishments. At any rate, color me a loner.

I'm perfectly fine being alone, but once I get into a social setting I usually have a good time.
