What Is Your Default Oil?

Rotella T5 going in almost everything I own once I use up my dwindling stash of T6 and Delo 5w40. Especially since the recent Auto Zone clearance with rebates. Have tons of it now.

Magnatec 5w30 for the motorhome while it's still under warranty because it seems to be the best bang for the buck ford spec I could easily find. Will likely be another T5 user after warranty expires.

BMW 0w20 for the wife's Forester because I get it for free.

Mobil 1 5W30 unless it is a vehicle where Mobil 1 0W40 would be more appropriate. Although on my 14 Mustang I only use Motorcraft 5W50 since it is readily available to me.

I work at Canadian Tire, and an oil is ALWAYS on sale, so whatever is on sale close to when I need it is what I go for.

I usually 'try' to get our housebrand stuff, Supreme or Formula 1, when it is $14-$16 a jug.

No rebates = Pennzoil 100% of the time.

It's really all marketing, but I totally fall for the "keeps your engine cleaner" schtick, and I just think of it as a better oil. Pennzoil convt also meets both of the manufacturer specs for our cars, so I wouldn't likely venture any higher up the food chain without a good sale.

That said, as most have already done, I wouldn't buy oil at retail price unless I was hard up for it.

I keep Castrol HM 5w-20 for my Mazda, and Mobile 1 0w-20 EP for our Honda

Btw, oil change interval is more important than what brand or type of oil you use as a long as it is recommended by the car manual

Quaker state. Walmart was out of high mileage so I bought advanced. Big whoopee.

If I had no stash and badly needed oil for a change, Magnetec from Walmart would be a good low-buck pick.
I'd also check out CL since I've often found good deals there.

Same here... I've been buying oil on clearance or special/rebate for so long I haven't paid retail in well over a decade, maybe two..

How about Smitty's Super S semi synthetic oil ??

I think Super S has become a default oil for me now. Castrol Magnatec, Mobil Super Synthetic, or Warren Oil Lubrigold 5w30 if I want a full synthetic oil.

Canadian Tire always has oil on sale

This is VERY true. You would have to purposely aim for a NON sale oil. Canadian Tire up here in Canada ALWAYS has some oil on sale, and it always shifts around from 1 brand to another, including their house brand. So anything synthetic would be my go-to. I stopped using conventional over 10 years ago.

If not shopping at Canadian Tire, Costco up here regularly stocks Castrol Edge Synthetic for $30. Walmart has the same oil for almost $50 when its not on sale.

However I've started accumulating a small stash, made up primarily of PP, with some QSUD also thrown in, so I doubt I would ever have to really go and buy oil off sale.
