I’ve been using Fram XG’s on all of my cars (‘02 F150, ‘01 Mustang GT, ‘00 Camry) and have had zero issues with them.
How’s your recent experience with them?

Wow… thank you!!You may wish to peruse a few recent threads on the new Ultra. Granted it's not "2024" but some of the threads extend into this year and all discuss the recent changes to the design.
Latest Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter as of 2023 January - Is it still a good choice?
I want to like the latest Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter as of the time of this post (2023 January). I want to use Fram Ultra Synthetic XG7317 filters for all my vehicles since it still has a rating of 99%+ efficiency @ 20 microns, and one of the highest filtration efficiencies of any filter...bobistheoilguy.comFram ultra synthetic
What are your thoughts, on the XG10575, I have never used it, I have never been a fan of the orange can. I have mainly used Motorcraft and Wix. In my current vehicle. I do know, they recently got rid of the filtering screen.. Thank youbobistheoilguy.comNew Alternative to Fram Ultra (New design)?
I have one remaining Fram Ultra left but will be looking for a new “higher end” filter. My decision mainly rests with the fact the Ultra no longer has wire backing. I’m not interested in supporting a company like Fram for essentially now charging 30% more for the same filter (Endurance is...bobistheoilguy.comNew Fram Ultra : Same Filtration & Flow Rate as Prior Ultra ?
Does the new Fram Ultra claim to be same or similar in filtering & flow rate as the previous constructed Fram Ultra ? ... These are the two main questions I have and the most important ones as far as I am concerned . Two 5,000 mile OCI's with a Fram Ultra - then I got my money's worth and it...bobistheoilguy.comWhen did Fram switch the Ultra to the new style?
Anyone know the approximate timeframe that Fram switched over to the new style Ultra filters?bobistheoilguy.comFram ultra old vs new efficiency?
Hi all! Been reading up on uktras.i know the new ones are not wire mesh reinforced. The wire mesh ones were they rated 99%+@20 um? That plus sign, just like the fram titaniums are. The new ultras are just 99%@20um.no plus sign. Or are they plus? I saw 6 fram mesh backed on eBay 3387a filters for...bobistheoilguy.comNew Fram Oil filter line
Was walking around walmart and ran into this. I really like the whole can is textured, and similar to ford blue. Maybe a bit darker. Notice one of the holes are bigger. Not sure why.bobistheoilguy.comChamp XL vs. "new" Fram Ultra?
I need to restock my inventory of 7317 and 9972 sized filters. I was previously using OE at $4-$5/filter, but am open to other options. These filters will be going into out-of-warranty vehicles for an OCI between 5-10K. Primarily looking for value - do not mind spending a bit more. How are...bobistheoilguy.com3 New Fram FS3506 filters - all different construction!!!
I made a video yesterday comparing Purolator ONE with Fram Titanium, I decided to go with the Fram. So today I went to Advance Auto Parts - there were three FS3506 filters on the selves … and all three were different designs. This is super frustrating because you never know what you’re getting...bobistheoilguy.comFram Ultras Discontinued?

I seem to recall there was "official" documentation on Fram's claimed 99% at 20 micron value. One could ask logically that a "claim" is not a "fact". Sorry if I should know this.bobistheoilguy.comFram Ultra - weak cans?
I jumped on the Fram Ultra bandwagon (#XG7317) after my supply of Genuine Honda oil filters ran out. I acquired 10-15 from various sources, both WM and Amazon, IIRC. Of the 5 or 6 I've used so far, 3 have had numerous dents on the can. Not sure if all of these were from the same vendor. Some...bobistheoilguy.comFram Ultra or Fram Endurance?
I'm thinking of running one these two filters on our 2016 Ford Fusion 2.0 ecoboost, filter would be 3614 unless I "upsized" which I haven't done on this car. I was planning on running the filter for two oil changes, roughly 10,000 to 12,000 miles. I'm leaning towards the Ultra for $9 vs. the...bobistheoilguy.comWhat happened to Fram oil filters?
They used to be tops, now at least the orange ones seem to be junkbobistheoilguy.comFram seems to be in favor now
I haven't paid much attention to filters for a while. Maybe because I have just been buying the OEM oil filters. I've noticed that now days Fram oil filters are many times suggested for use when someone askes about what oil and filter to use. A while back (10 or 15 years, I guess), Fram was the...bobistheoilguy.comFram Titanium is no longer metal screen backed. Ultra, Endurance, Titanium ALL are synthetic *blend* media.
@OVERKILL mentioned that Titanium filters were transitioning to the unbacked synthetic blend media found in the Fram Ultra. I thought I had purchased Titanium FS3980s that were metal backed - the one I just purchased and cut open was! I was wrong. The Fram rep told me “Titanium = Ultra with a...bobistheoilguy.com
But since it lost the wire backing, has it's quality remained the same or is it's quality still in decline after that? Not the product it once was...
I'll bite my tongue..But since it lost the wire backing, has it's quality remained the same or is it's quality still in decline after that?
Sorry. Let me ask the question another way:I'll bite my tongue..
Check out the numerous previous threads I posted above. If you need more I’ll link them tomorrow.Sorry. Let me ask the question another way:
A: Fram Ultra has the wire backing.
B: Fram Ultra quality 1 year after the wire backing was removed.
C: Fram Ultra quality today.
Has the quality declined from B: to C: above?
If so, please provide details. This is an important question, as I currently view Fram Ultra as one of the best filters due to it's high efficiency.
Thanks in advance for your detailed response.
20,000 miles is a lot of miles to ask a filter to run. For the money on a wire backed Ultra you'd not have to worry about a long mileage run like that & the wire backing kept the filter pleats in position throughout that interval. Now, removal of the wire backing we see the aftermath of it & that is wavy pleats but I've not seen too many run them real long mileages yet but in time perhaps we will. That way we can get more information on how they handle those mileages. I'm just not sold on them when they've removed one of the greatest features of the filter & IMO reinforced or wire backed media is a must/piece of mind for 20,000 miles. They essentially increased the cost of the Ultra by wire backing the Endurance & to add insult to injury there's only selected models available at WM (not a whole range product offering). Do I think the Ultra is a terrible filter? no,, absolutely not, but would I recommend it for 20k..no. That would be a job for an Endurance/Boss/XP/Platinum reinforced media.Sorry. Fram still shows the non-wire backed Ultra having the same efficiency and "up to" 20K mileage use rating. Fram has also gone to a louvered center tube on the Ultras and Endurance models that I've seen. So if you don't like verifying louver formation quality, then that might be a consideration.Sorry. Thanks. How would the "old" Fram Ultra with the wire backing compare against the new Fram Endurance.Fram still shows the non-wire backed Ultra having the same efficiency and "up to" 20K mileage use rating. The "big thing" for some here is that some Ultras show "wavy" pleats (most have a minor waviness), and people seem to be overly critical when it's an Ultra, but not so much when wavy pleats are seen on other filter brands and models, lol. Wavy pleats are seen in lots of oil filters after use, and doesn't really matter unless you're entering it in a BITOG C&P beauty contest.
Basically the same, but the Endurance has a higher use rating of 25K miles, so a bit higher holding capacity than the Ultra. All the specs are on Fram's website. If you want wire backed media then get the Endurance if Walmart carries the model you need.Thanks. How would the "old" Fram Ultra with the wire backing compare against the new Fram Endurance.
Would they both be of equal quality or would one be of higher quality than the other?
That's because they cheapened the product & the cost didn't go down. "Wavy pleats" was the last straw. Bellyaching rightfully so.The "big thing" for some here is that some Ultras show "wavy" pleats (most have a minor waviness), and people seem to be overly critical when it's an Ultra, but not so much when wavy pleats are seen on other filter brands and models, lol. Nah, basically just Fram hater criticism. I've seen plenty of Purolator filters (and other brands) with wavy pleats after use - and they keep raising their prices, lol. I'm sure you think Purolator filters with wavy pleats are still just fine and "high quality". One-way glasses wearing syndrome. That's because they cheapened the product & the cost didn't go down.
