Won the bid on this 1979 YAMAHA XS1100 , it was donation to charity and went to auction. Clear title, 25k miles. Appears not to run. My high bid was $100, and won. Seller's reserve not met. If i am awarded the bid, out the door is $174.00

Costs came in much higher than the pre-bid calculator of $174.... ouch....
  • Bid Amount $100.00
  • Buyer Fee: $80.00
  • Service Fee: $79.00
  • Internet Fee: $39.00
  • Environmental Fee $10.00
$308 out the door.... plus cost of trailer rental and fuel...... no free lunch here.....

I road several of the faster bikes of that era (all belonging to friends as I owned a 1977 Yamaha XS650 which was 'fast' enough for me). I road a 1975 Kawasaki Z900...a Suzuki 1000 and a 1978 or 79 XS1100 a few times.
I remember that XS1100 pulled like a locomotive and kept accelerating until you ran out of nerve. I had it over 100mph on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx (not a very smart move but when your in your 20s you think you're invincible). It's hard to believe that modern 650cc crotch rockets are even faster.
Good Luck with it and I hope you get her running well.

My first bike was a 1981 XJ650 Midnight Maxim, and always wanted a XS1100. Congrats on your win.

I had a 1978 Kawasaki KZ-1000. That was the fastest thing on 2 wheels that year. 12.8 quarter mile. Today they have 500's that will destroy it.
I had them all too. KZ-900, KZ-1000, KH 750... it didn't hurt that mom was secretary to the president of Kawasaki USA at the time. Amazing how much bike technoolgy has changed.

Thanks, my first (bigger) bike was I think MY 1980 Yamaha Vision, 600cc V2, water cooled. Had a lot of weird carburetor issues, but very smooth bike for a 18 year old.

I am going to have a lot of trouble bringing this home.... what was I thinking.....

Tell them it wasn't you . Someone must have hacked your account .

Looks like it has a kick start on it, but I'm pretty sure it's got a electric starter as well.

You still got a good deal on it. Is this bike something that runs great or is it more of a parts bike? I know the Honda's Interstates could take a lot of miles and still keep on going. I guess you will have to check it out. Just a few parts sales would make you break even.

Wife is going to be very, very unhappy when she sees this........ there is a expectation I would not be buying (riding) a bike.
