What's going on with gas prices?

Here in Ontario Canada, it's $1.20 per liter. 3.78 liters per gallon means that is equivalent to $4.54 per gallon (including a 13% sales tax).

On a trip last summer in Montana, we were pleasantly surprised to find that gas prices worked out to $0.79 per liter, or a whopping 34% discount vs. prices at home.

I'm in Cook County: 3.09 and 3.19 this morning.

My guess is Spring break and they expect more traffic with kiddos and parents on the road.

Right! Funny that the day crude goes up on the spot market the price at the pump jumps 20 cents immediately. But when the price of crude drops the pump prices drops 2 cents at time over the course of a month. Funny ain't it?

Price is based on what the market will bear.
I paid something like $2.95 a gallon for rag in the Tundra a little while back and thought I was in heaven.
Anything under $3.30 ain't bad. I don't even look; just pay and pay.

I'm sure some if the oil company apologists on here will blather something about summer blend or other excuses.
What has never been explained to me is why don't prices drop by 15 cents at a time. They will drop a penny or two and then jump by a bunch.
They will probably blame the chemical fire in Houston or solar flares.

Simple suggestion - buy or build a facility to sell motor fuels at retail, and get twenty or thirty thousand gallons in inventory at each facility.

You will quickly understand why the retail price fluctuates as it does. Hint: replacement cost ...

Ahh, the yearly gas is getting more expensive in the spring rant...

In other news, water is wet.

Go back and look at previous years and tell me why anyone should be surprised...

Was it $4.50 - $5.09 in NY on 2009?

Most of the complaints come from owners of large vehicles with V8s.

I learned long ago that the price of gas is not what you should focus on but how much do you consume. Regardless of what the price of gasoline is, the less you use the more money in your pocket.

Dang straight! I have a full sized pick up and a couple of hot rods, but both me and my wife's DDs are fuel sippers. Even if gas was $1 a gallon, I still want to buy as little as I have to.

Exactly. Good riddance! Loving my v6's.

Don't know about you guys in the mid and north … but surprised to see how many roads down this way have increased the speed limit … if you are only doing 75 mph … you will be run over by a Shelby F350 PSD …

I think most people use credit cards these days so I'm not sure that everyone even notices much when it's higher. Technically doesn't even really affect my wallet, normally it's just a credit card and I just glance at the statement which gets paid automatically every month. Just a slightly different number on a piece of paper/computer.

Most people notice, even those driving Prius. I wouldn't say the complains are from only large SUVs or truck owners but more likely from long commuters (those with 1 hr each way). It hurts all of us but this is the time of the year that are high in prices, every year, because of formula change, spring break, and they intentionally put the maintenance downtime at this time of the year as a way to jack up prices.

For now it doesn't change the way I drive because I am already using all small engine cars in my family, and I don't commute long distance, but I wouldn't drive any less. Gas is cheap compare to everything else like time and productivity.

I'm guessing it's because the Easter holiday is coming up,and the gas companies know people will be traveling.

Up 70 cents a gallon over just a couple months ago in Fort Worth.

I did fill last night for $2.39 at a Valero with Top tier

Waiting for the inevitable spring refinery fire and/or explosion, seems to happen every year! I think it's the spring fuel changeover, seems like prices here go up until around Mother's Day, then bounce around until after July 4th.
