I am not sure which Mobil1 0w40 (FS, ESP, Supercar) would be best suited for my 2015 2GR-FE.
This engine has VVTi, two cam timing chains, and roller-follower rocker arms with low friction roller bearings.
I think it is would be the FS version of the oil, but am not quite sure.
Has had a steady diet of 0W-20 up until the last change which was M1 0w30. Next change I would like to try 0w40.
Currently have 105k miles on the odometer.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I used oW40 FS in my 2015 Sienna, M1 5W30, Castrol Edge 0W30, and M1 0W20.

i've run FS in my highlanders, 2GR-FE for many years.

why? base oil, cleaning ability and cost. also the MB 229.5, A40 certs are a plus for me. is this overkill? prob, but i sleep better at night.

ESP is hard to find in my area and goes for $12-15 a quart. haven't seen supercar in my shelves.

currently have HPL 10W30 EURO NO VII in the sump.

If the 2GR-FE is anything like the 1GR-FE? it will like any oil.

Here are the oils I've used in the 1GR-FE in my 07 FJ Cruiser w/229k miles today. It doesn't use any oil. Never needed any major/unscheduled maintenance on 87 octane. Just spark plugs, pvc, & oil & filter changes.

Purchased it Jan of 2009 with 21k miles on the odometer.

love to see how these 1GR engines just keep going without skipping a beat.

i have a 2021 4Runner and love the power train. don't care if i only get 14mpg due to modifications. i bought this Runner brand new because i wanted the last of the true dinosaurs. plus the A750 transmission is bulletproof. currently running HPL NO VII EURO 5W30

when i brought her home from the dealer i changed the oil when it hit 150 miles, then at 500 miles, then at 1,000 after that i changed at 5,000 and have stuck with 5,000-6,000 mile changes. she's going up on 20,000 miles this year and i just ordered a Oil Analyzers test and will be changing soon. will be posting results of the HPL, when this happens. this truck dies with me.

my 08 Highlander has 200,000 plus miles w me and all ive done is change the oil, decided to change the radiator (had zero issues). water pump because of age, not because it was showing issues, just preventive. all preventive was done this year. the highest viscosity i've used in the highlander is 15W-40.

plan on getting the GX550 after 6 months of initial launch and dealers aren't marking up. or i might wait and invest and just let them work out any potential bugs the first year.

I hope you have replaced the spark plugs on the Highlander lol

what is the recommended viscocity grade Range in your owner's manual?
Mine says 10~5w30 but I have always used M1 0w40 (except on 2 occasions) . My engine is 2.0 VVTI & done 91kmiles
M1 0w40 graded is just a little higher@100deg compared to a w30.
My thoughts are that manufacturers specify super low viscocity is order to meet emission control, get better higher power/ better mpg specs in the brochure and have doubts on how these super thin oil hold up during the 10000 miles OCI!

It also says to use thicker in heavy duty cycle.
You are so right. I never noticed that in my manual.

Interesting though, if you noticed they seem to be inferring only the 100C viscosity number can be increased since the comment is in the high temperature paragraph.
Winter rating is irrelevant, except as to how it relates your expected starting temperature. It has no real impact on the operating viscosity. Unless you’re starting below about -30 or so then you can ignore whether the oil has a 5W or a 0W rating.

The winter rating is not a “viscosity number” in that way. 0W oils are not guaranteed to be thinner except below -30 or so.
