@chris719 told me about this XOM engineer (Haris Junuzovic) that happened to visit the Porsche Club of Hamburg for a technical discussion of the X3 0w40. As it turns out, the X3 0w40 is a better oil than the FS 0w40. I would say Super Car 0w40 is too.

Noack for X3 0w40 is 8.6% FWIW.

Figured I post what was specifically said about the two:

"It's fitting that ExxonMobil, as a long-standing Porsche development partner, also offers special high-performance oils for the Mezger engine family, namely the Mobil 1 FS x1 5W-50 and the Mobil 1 FS x3 10W-60 (from the second half of 2020). These revised high-performance oils ensure even better wear protection, very good engine cleanliness and low oil consumption thanks to even better sealing. The focus of the lecture from Mobil 1.

However, developer Haris Junuzovic had the Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 with the new Porsche C40 oil approval, which is approved for use in all current Porsche V8 and boxer engines. The outstanding properties of this new development range from optimized friction behavior to even greater wear protection compared to the already very good predecessor product Mobil 1 FS 0W-40. Especially in the area of connecting rod bearings, high temperatures and speeds place extreme demands on the engine oil. Lower fuel consumption has also been demonstrated in numerous engines compared to 0W-30 oil. The risk of LSPI pre-ignition occurring in some modern turbo engines, which can lead to major engine damage within a very short period of time, is eliminated by specially tailored additives. The same applies to the protection of petrol and diesel particulate filters. Maximum aging stability, even when using low-quality fuels, enables extended oil change intervals of up to 30,000 km. The result of ExxonMobil's research and development efforts is a high-tech product that combines outstanding technical properties with fuel saving potential. New and performance-enhanced air-cooled 'Wicked Sixes' are supplied with appropriate high-performance oils in a species-appropriate manner. PC Hamburg would like to thank you for this exclusive specialist lecture."

It's not out of the question that you can make a lower SA oil better than a FS. Apparently, that's what they achieved here based on what they said about it.

It's also been said that the Porsche was using the X3 oil in the 24-hour racing where previously they were using FS 0w40.

The ash level is .88%

It is interesting that Mobil uses esters in their highest performance level products. Where as the EP line does not. Although now no one knows what they're using. I think this oil stayed the same.

You can get it for $5.50 per quart through AutoZone. I used to use it in my c8 track cars.

It happens to be dexos 2.

I would not expect M1 to say anything less. It must be better than FS because the OPF (Otto Particulate Filter) is becoming mandatory if it isn't already and officially you can't run FS in cars which have an OPF.
This. Also, I expect both oils have changed since that visit, we know the FS has. So it's a moving target.

They said the wear performance was found to be better with ESP vs FS 0w40 (non SP grade).

Porsche racing teams switched to ESP X3 0w40 over M1 FS 0w40.

Unless he's just saying that...

I wonder what difference in HTHS between the two was at that point? We are talking bearing wear, so that's more HTHS stuff.

You can’t get it for $5.50 any longer, it’s more than doubled since you were using it. I believe it’s $11.50 a quart now at autozone, which places it in Amsoil pricing range.

You sure can.

That's the retail price and always has been...

.... but you can buy 5 quarts and get a $17.99 m1 or kn oil filter for $42.99. you return the oil filter and you've paid $5.50 per quart. All the c8 guys do this. This special has been going for a year and a half now

Just checked again
