Hankooks on the Camry

So, I got the Hankook tires thru work with “work account” so $260 out the door. Definitely a major upgrade over the Sumitomo Enhance that we’re on the car. Road noise is completely non existent also. I put 35 psi in tires yesterday since I mounted new tires at work. Checked again this morning and tires still at 35. It’s 36F here and real foggy too.

never going cheap or mid grade on tires ever 🇺🇸🇨🇦🍻
You do realize, Hankook is more of a mid-grade tire than Top tier (Bridgestone, Michelin, etc)

some would consider hankooks to be going cheap, also 1 tire is not every tire that a company makes.
Sumitomo has some above average AT tires for example.

falken has some real dud tires.. but a few gems as well.

even continential and michelin have some bleh. tires.

Michelin's AT tires are average at best.
If you want to go cheap with Hankook, they have a sub-tier brand under them, Laufenn

UG_Passat: never knew Hankooks were mid grade tire. Oh well, guess I screwed up putting “mid grade tires” on the Camry. 😋😆

I've had the sub Mid-grade Hankook's for almost 4 years. They are wearing better than the so called Top tier Bridgestone tire that came on the Corolla new. I have the ones just down from the one's Adam has mine are only suppose to be good for 60K they have over 30K on them now and are wearing well. They worked well the last two winters in the snow. I don't drive that many miles a year and my tires generally get changed out because the side walls are cracking. At four years everything seems pretty copasetic. But I'll run right out when it gets light and make sure nothing has changed over night.

JohnnyJohnson: thanks for the review. I have ran Michelin and Goodyear before. Never knew there was such hatred for a tire brand like Hankook 🙊🙊

Which Hankook tires did you install?

I've used Optimo H727 in the past and liked them at first till they became noisy and wore out quickly. Many have complained about the same things(noisy/short life).

And the H727 didn't last anywhere near their mileage rating, by a lot. So though I never really hated them, I stopped liking them 1/2 way into their life cycle.

The previous set of tires on Matrix were Hankook Ventus Concepts II’s which didn’t even come with a mileage warranty. But they served me well for 65k miles. I like the brand but would get a better model in terms of better winter traction than the Concept II’s which are more of a performance tire. I’m ok with noise as long as I have winter traction.

No, I don’t believe so as those are T rated. Mine are V rated as V is rated higher than T and better mileage rating

The Kinergy GT (grand touring) is rated in T, H and V depending on size. They have pretty awful ratings on Tirerack (user reviews) but YMMV.

There's a couple other Kinergy lines in the "standard touring" category, but I think those focus more on treadwear than performance and ride comfort.

I've never used Hankooks personally, but I wouldn't hesitate if I found a good deal. Everything I've read about them tells me they're a decent tire and compare well with other popular brands.

I've had Sumitomos on a couple of my cars and I really liked them. I just installed a set on my Grand Prix. Good value for the $. They were the HTR A/S P02 line, not the Enhance though. The latter has pretty poor reviews on Tirerack as well.

I disagree!
Certainly make post on new tires for sure. I do all the time even if I am criticized.
This is what helps us all learn. This is why we all come here.

Here's a situation that I will share.
I have loved every Michelin that I've ever had. However they've all come ONLY on new cars that I've purchased. I have never purchased Michelin tires aftermarket. TOO EXPENSIVE!...for me.

I do like Pirellis(several of them) and have had some of the best success with the brand regardless of what others experiences are.

But, here's another situation.
At one time, I wouldn't give you a plugged nickel for a General or Cooper. But today, they're always a strong consideration(whether I buy or not) when looking at new tires. I think they've got it going on right now.

There is one word in there that absolves Bridgestone of any blame for your Corolla tires... OEM. OEM tires are a different animal.. and are spec'ed by Toyota in this case.
So if you have issues with your oem bridgestone tires blame toyota.

Some oem tires are ok, but almost all I received on my new vehicles...their priority is definitely not mine. I like traction, wet traction, steering feel, decent handling... esp not getting blown all over the lane by crosswinds.. maybe LRR if possible.

In fact the firestone destination AT on my jeep(s) were the first tires that survived 20k miles without being removed and sold on craigslist.

Well, I guess I’ll find out if they are good or bad. Note to self: don’t ever make a post about new tires
I hope you dont feel I was trashing your tires. I think they will probably be satisfactory on a regular sedan.. I dont know much about your particular model since you mention it.
Maybe we could get a picture. There are several models it could be.

My truck came new with Hankook tires. They all separated before my 36K mile warranty was up. Ford replaced them twice. After the warranty was up I couldn't get those tires off of my truck fast enough!
Nitto, Cooper, and Continental are my go to tires. (y)

Sumitomo isn’t inherently a “cheap” brand iirc they make a good product, generally I find “grand touring” is a segment of tires with a lot of trash in it (cough cough Bridgestone Turanza serenity). I had a set of Sumitomo Ice edge snow tires when I lived in the mountains and they transformed my RWD truck in snow/ice, I went through one of the worst winters in Durango history in probably the worst type of vehicle for it on those and I literally spun one of my tires once getting out of an icy parking space.

FWIW my wife has some Kumho (owned by Hankook) Crugen HT51s which are a knock off of the LTX and they’re some of the best tires I’ve driven, whereas the Dynapro HTs that came stock on my truck are god awful and slide all over the place in the lightest of wet weather.

TL: DR most brands make stinker products and great products, a great logo on the sidewall of a tire does not a good tire make.

What you state is not even close to what l read on Wikepedia. It is entirely possible that Wikipedia has wrong information.
You’re correct! I have no idea why I was seemingly 100% sure they were the same company. Fwiw I thought Nexen, Hankook, and Kumho were all the same. Maybe I need to lighten up on the stouts over the weekend as they’re all separate companies 🥴

Just enjoy your tires. A "V" rating is as good as it gets for regular tires. Sounds like an upgrade however you look at it. I'm getting a set of Tiger Paws for my truck when the current tires are done. I like the specs and am not too worried about the status of the name brand.

I bought a set of Hankook Kinergy PT H737 about a year ago. They're from Hankook's new US factory. No complaints, so far.
