CrossWind tires. Will they kill me dead?

Could go with a nice set of used tires for that low mileage and will last you quite some time. Probably around $25 each installed.

CostCo doesn't carry any where near the variety of tires to come close in price to the Crosswind tires. Not CLOSE. Not a great suggestion...gentlemen.

You can get better tires than that. The Douglas tires aren't that much more and will be better tires. For about $100 each you can get Falken SN250 or the Cooper Evolution Tour (replacement for the CS3)

The variety doesn't have to be as broad as Walmart to have a decent offering at a reasonable price, I'm not sure why you are trotting that out as your metric

Now, do they offer one in this size that's reasonably priced? I haven't checked. But they often do run promotions that can present as a good deal.

Just going by TireRack, you should be able to get the Cooper CS3 Touring for $105/piece, perhaps even better locally at a competitive tire shop (which has been my experience). That's $420 vs $260, a whopping $160.00 difference for a brand-name tire. You could also get the Sumitomo Touring LS H, which show as $98/tire; $392/set, $132.00 more, which appear to be well rated. It appears you really don't need to spend a lot more money to get something that isn't scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The cheapest that Costco has in that size is about $524 for 4 BF Goodrich Advantage T/A plus another $60 to install which includes road hazard and lifetime rotation/balance. Those have a 65k mileage warranty. I just noticed that Crosswind has no warranty at all on tread life, not even sure they have a warranty.

That works out to about double what he was originally planning on spending. I guess you can put a value on life.

They sell Bridgestone, BF Goodrich, and Michelin. None of these will come close to a Chinese tire. Not even with the $70.00 rebate that they offer ALL THE TIME. Pick any size you want and compare. It won't be close.

You guys are really melodramatic when someone is considering a Chinese tire. I mean really.....................

If he is that value conscious-he should be considering the MileStar tire, Chinese tires that actually get decent reviews. That's a more realistic recommendation.

Yeah, it's fun isn't it?

When the guy wonders if a tire is going to kill you dead, you've got to think that there's some kernel of truth in there.

Strange how that thought doesn't occur when you buy name brand tires with a warranty. While tires may be made in China for other name brands, they control the QC at those plants. On the other hand, the smaller Chinese companies that compete on price have been the ones that have faced recalls and have had bad QC in the past. It's a gamble, not sure if the reward is worth the risk.

Sometimes the point of a cheap tire isn't to save you money, it's just so that cheap dealers can just throw on a set of tires on a used car and advertise that it has a new set of tires.

1. Go to a local reputable tire dealer
2. Get their advice because they want you to come back as a repeat customer
3. Follow their advice
4. Never buy from a big box as you are just more work for them.

With what I know from my personal experience, I'd get some Mastercrafts in your situation.

A local reputable dealer will be there if you have problems. They want your business.

With a manufacturer by the name of Ling Long...hard to go wrong. Or perhaps, what can go wrong? They're poetry in motion.

Seriously, has to be your call if the cost savings provided worth any questions or doubts you have about the Crosswind. OT As for sensational (Kumho) pics posted, any tire can have a blowout and not enough information provided about the anecdote cause and circumstances. Inexpensive tires or tires with same as topic coo more prone, IDK and don't care to investigate stats.

As for title query, one thing is for sure, if they were to kill you, you would be dead.

I don't believe it has to be "close" to the cost of a Chinese tire to make it a good deal. Look at the two TireRack examples I gave, both reasonably priced name-brand tires.

M1, PP, Edge...etc are never going to be "close" to the cost of API SG oil from Dollar Giant either, but you can often get them on sale for significantly less than what they typically go for, making them a good deal. The quality of what you are purchasing; the value, needs to be factored in as well, it isn't just about the sticker price.

I bought a set of Primewells for a barely driven around town car based on price. They were loud, but they were on an 98 Ford Escort, it was loud too. Served me well for 5 years and were on the car when I sold it. I bought a car hauler trailer with Nankangs on it. at the time I was like, no way am I running on Chinese tires. 15 years later (OMG beyond the dreaded BITOG 6-10 year freak out rule!), they are still on the trailer and serving me well. Doublecoin, Linglong... scary names....must make them bad tires.

Firestone 500 anyone?

I put a cheap set of the new design Uniroyal AWP 3 on my commuter car. Its been fine. But there are really no reviews for that tire yet, so it was a risk. Looking at the Douglas for another car because everyone on here raves about them. There are good reviews from people who just bought them a week ago. But there are also bad long term reviews including lousy ride at highway speeds, short tread life, bad in rain and snow, blowouts and bulges in the sidewall. So.. Its all opinions. I say try the Crosswinds. Go with your gut. might be the perfect tire for you. Let us know, i may buy that tire too.

As I mentioned-the Milestar tires are decent. And won't be an extra $400.00 dollars.
