M1 212A filter off a 19 Silverado 4.3 V6. Dudes truck has 83k miles and it was a 16,106mi interval. I see at least 4 media failures. Am I missing something? What causes this level of failure? Oil was m1 5w30 ep. I dont think he abuses his truck. Mild towing and daily commuting since November 22.

Another m1 212A went on, and m1 0w40 in.

He samples his used oil. Collected sample for him. Will share if possible.

The filter is built for 20k so it has to deliver. These engines struggle to produce more than 70 psi of oil pressure. When flooring it I struggle to get my 5.3, 6.0, or 6.2 to go above that. They all typically hover around 35-50 in normal driving.

That's why I'm wondering what I'm missing. Is the truck having a mechanical issue? It also produces that pressure range. Surely Mobil didnt build a filter that poor ...

Was the oil also not changed for 16,106 miles? If so, that is more than I would want to go.

I think what is missing, and our Oil Filter expert will chime in soon, is that an Oil Filter that is not Wired Backed may have some tearing issues after a certain amount of miles or driving conditions.

1 tear could be an accident in the assembly but that many just means the media was defective. It must've had a manufacturing defect to make it be stiff or brittle enough to make it break apart like that.

That is a lot of miles for that particular vehicle isn't it?
I would think gasser V6 should be kept to 10k or less.
Then I wonder what mild towing really entails?

This is an issue with either bypass, weak media support, or both. Either by too wide media spacing or not enough backing media support (Wire backed) etc. When the pressure goes as high as the bypass PSI it takes out the weakest link in the process. However, this bad I wouldn't be surprised if there was bypass not opening when required. It has 20k intervals written on the side & lower efficiency so this filter shouldn't have torn. Was the media real griddy/dirty/carbon?

It's a 20k filter. Mobil or any company can't be allowed to lie about it and make you go half their claims you paid extra for. Towing does little, engine at 2000-3000 rpm cruising on the highway is still 2000-3000 rpm. Tow and haul mode will just raise it slightly. It could be a bypass issue as some old gen 3's suffered from that not working but that's almost a non issue with these newer engines. Haven't experienced that issue with my old trucks. They relieve pressure as needed. Filter media and bottom of the can looks about average. Looks the same as some 7k filters.

Go ahead, contact Mobil CS-they'll blow you off, or, worse, send you to Mann "CS"! :ROFLMAO: Read the fine print-it will say "OR manufacturer's suggested drain intervals".

I believe it. mobil's filters and oil are a joke. It's why ill use orange cans before m1 filters.
