Hey guys, I've been a long time reader of the forums and finally decided to contribute with my first post!

The weather was nice today so I decided to replace the valve cover gasket on my 2005 Toyota Matrix with the 1ZZFE engine. I've been strictly using Mobil 1 5W30 since the car's first oil change at 1,000 miles. The car now has over 220K and I've been using an OCI anywhere between 7K and 10K (depending on how itchy my oil change hands get!). The oils filters used during this time was one of the following depending on what sale was available:

1)Toyota OEM
2)Mobil 1
3)Purolator PureOne
4)Supertech (discontinued)
5)Bosch

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

Congratulations on a well-maintained engine. Most vehicles on the road are abused, but yours is NOT!

Wow, that looks excellent! Keep doing what your doing, It looks as if it has many many miles left! Any pics of the exterior?

Just another example of how clean M1 oils keep engines. That's why I have have continued to use their oils for the last 36 years. Thanks for posting.

Agreed. Aligns nicely with my own experience as well

For most of the car's life it's been 70% highway 30% city mix. For the past 2 years I would say it's more like a 90/10 mix with a daily 120 mile (r/t) mostly highway commute. Thanks for your comments.

First, welcome to BITOG!

Next: Those pics = NICE

nowhere as nasty as my 1ZZ-FE, at less miles. M1, reasonable OCI and improved piston ring design did the job. Quite jelly here!

Ever change PCV or chain tensioner?

Edit: By "reasonable OCI" I mean he's not one of those "M1 @ 3000mi" people...

My son recently traded in his 2003 Vibe (same motor) with 213,000 miles on it. He used regular castrol up to about 90,000 then he went with one of the high mileage oils. (Whatever was on sale). The engine was purring when he got rid of it. The suspension, brakes and tires were due and he was ready for a change.
