I have a 2009 Mazda cx9 3.7L GT. Recommended oil is 5w20 but I used 5w40 in Nigeria and I am experiencing oil alarm especially when the engine heats up.
Pls any advice on the right oil to switch to?

I would think that the 5w-40 should deal with high heat better than 5w-20.
Unless the car does not like thick oil.

How hot is the weather when this happened?

High ambient temps should raise engine operating temps.

I ran M1 EP 0w20 when we had our 2008 CX-9. No UOA, but ran just fine.

It is an intermittent flashing on the dashboard and this happens only when am idling. Not when am on the move. It has to do with RPM too cos it goes off when I rave the engine

I will need to check with DT. What I do see is the intermittent flashing of the lube oil on the dashboard

If this is the first time you used 5w40 and suddenly you are getting this engine code, then just switch back to the recommended oil. How long have you been using the 5w40? Has the engine been properly serviced in the past? Is it making any strange noises etc?

I know that 5w40 is spec'd in Australia so the issue isn't the oil grade. Just a coincidence. 5w40 is the perfect oil for your climate. I've used it in our 2008 Mazda CX-9 GT here in California with no issues. ðŸ‘
