Your Best and Worst MPG Car

My 2011 Forte Koup did the best, with me driving it averaged 24-26mpg.

The worst was my 2011 Durango. 13-14mpg, didn’t really matter how you drove it, just stubbornly refused to budge any higher.

Worst was my 1968 dodge charger with a 440 magnum...and I added a six pack to it...got around 10 to 12 mpg...had a Hemi grind camshaft...Best was my 2007 Honda Accord SE with the 2.4.....would get in the 32 to 35 mpg range...

My best ever was 42 mpg out of an old Toyota pickup. My jeep,fj and f250 get about 14.

Many years ago I had a 69 Chevelle. I put an 11:1 compression 302 in it with a mild cam,2 bbl, dual exhaust and it had a 3 on the tree with 3.08 axle gears. It got 26 mpg repeatable on the hwy
What octane did you use for 11 compression ratio?

The 1.0L came in the fiesta over here? I did not realize that; I had the 1.0L in my focus and 40mpg was easily achievable at 70mph.

Worst was the Evo, 23mpg untuned @ 55mph, 27 tuned.
I think it was 5% of US fiesta sales. It came with manual only so not popular but perfect tow dinghy behind an RV. They didn’t even put a steering wheel lock in it for that reason.

I understand in Europe the engine had start stop capability and would shut off one cylinder under light load.

Best gas mileage vehicle I've owned: 2005 Pontiac Sunfire.
Worst gas mileage vehicle I've owned: 1978 Chevy Short Bed 4x4 with a
small block 400.

Best: 2019 Fiat Spider, 37 mpg easily, 2-3 higher if I drive it like a normal human being on flat roads. Tuned, aftermarket exhaust, most fun I've ever had with any car. Drive it all day long, the gas gauge just never moves.

Worst: 2001 Sequoia, 15mpg coasting downhill with the engine off and a hurricane tailwind. It wasnt this bad when we first got it, it would get 18-20 pretty consistently on the highway. The cheapy replacement Autozone O2 sensors really killed the mpg, but since we only use it in winter or hauling stuff, its not worth spending more money to save 2-3 mpg

Worst of the worst worst worst: '77 Mustang II that I had in high school in the early 80's. A 302, 2bbl, automatic, and whatever high ratio rear end the previous owner put in it... Full tank would last maybe 90 miles....maybe. I could sometimes get it to 100 miles if I drove it very, very gently, which I rarely did. It was pretty horrible, but it was in nice shape and the performace was quite impressive, especially considering the era, and I had a really good job in high school so I didnt care about the exorbitant gas bill due to the extremely frequent fill ups. If I had a brain I would have bought a junkyard rear end and put it back to stock. Overall reliability-wise the car was a serious turd but it had some serious giddy-up.

What cars you owned gave you the worst and best mpg?

My worst was a ‘65 mustang 4.7 L V8 that got 18-20 mpg on the highway.

Best is my 2015 1.0 L ecoboost Fiesta that gets 46 mpg.

Both cars weigh 2700 lbs and have about the same interior space. Mustang’s trunk seemed bigger but specs say not. Fiesta’s faster acceleration even though hp is less on comparable rating. Most be the torque curve is better.
You’re the first Mustang owner I’ve ever seen to call the 289 a 4.7 liter.

It’s a ‘65, man! So..289.. 😊

Worst, my first real car, 1973 Cadillac Eldorado with "501" in it (500CID), 10.6 MPG no matter what I drove, City, highway, Whatever,
Best ICE car 1985 Honda Accord hatchback 36MPG highway
Best Hybrid 2018 Chevy Volt 46MPG steady state 70 mph Highway

Worst is a tie between my 64 Galaxie with a built 390 and my 86 F250 with a modified 351W. Both get 8-11 MPG average no matter how you drive them. The Galaxie burns premium.

Best MPG I ever had was from a 92 Miata, averaged 22-24 MPG city, close to 30 highway and I spun that thing to redline A LOT!

Best currently is my 99 grand marquis, 17-19 city 25 ish highway.

08 Chrysler T&C 3.8 V6 averages a crappy 13-14 city, has gotten 24 on the highway fully loaded across the state though a mountain pass though.
Our old 1978 Dodge B200 with a warmed up 318, 727 and 3.21 gears screaming at 2600 on the highway got better MPG around town than the minivan. Miss that engine, not the van.

My moms old 97 Mazda 626 I just sold to a coworker averages 17-19 around town and around 30 on the highway.

My dads old 1987 Mazda B2200 automatic he ordered brand new averaged 17-19 city and mid 30's on the highway but talk about a powerless wonder. I always got a kick out of flooring that thing from a stop, all sound and no go!

OMG, I have too many vehicles to list that got poor fuel economy.
My '72 Dodge Power Wagon was about 6 mpg back in the day but, I didn't check it often because it always had a load of stuff in the bed. A '68 LeSabre that got about 12 mpg and a '73 NewPort was about 11 mpg.

My best if probably the currently Altima in my signature which is right on with the combined mpg of ~ 31 with upper 30s on the hiwy and have gone over 40 mpg on a few occasions. Although I did have an '88 Accord that did well on the hiwy and fair in the city.
My daughter's Civic in my signature is consistently getting about 36 mpg in combined driving and over 40 on the hiwy.

The best was the 70's era Corolla 5-speed stick. Worst was a mid to late 80's Mercury Grand Marquis wagon with a 460 V-8...always single digit mph.

Best: 94 Saturn SL2 (MT), 99 Saturn SL2 (AT) and current 2013 Cruze LS (MT) could all hit 39-40 in optimal conditions.

Worst: Our 06 Cobalt (AT) sees is typically 32 highway. Had a 97? Ford Aspire (AT) that could squeeze out 32 highway, that was probably the worst.

My current Acura TLX 2.4L has been the best MPG achiever. Today I just completed a 500 mile run of about 85% highway driving with a real mpg of 38.68 on Shell premium unleaded. My all-time worst was a 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser that was lucky to get 15 mpg on the highway.

Best 2017 Mazda 3 sedan with the 2.0 best was like 42mpg.
Worst is my truck 14 Sierra with the 6.2 best ever was 20.1 according to the truck.

Best: 2001 Jetta TDI - 60 mpg (imperial) on the highway
Worst: 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 - 7 mpg (imperial) cruising the streets

Worst was a 1968 Dodge Charger with a 440 and a Six Pack installed....Rear gears 3.91...Would get around 12 with premium fuel....Sunoco 260 back then...Best 2007 Honda Accord SE with a 2.4...35 mpg...

My best was a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI that got 45 mpg on diesel
My worst was a 1968 Chevrolet Sportsvan with a 307 cubic inch V8. It got 12-14 mpg.

As a side matter, I had a 1964 Corvette that got 16 mpg. The current 2022 Corvette gets 25 mpg.
