What weight oil do you use in winter?

This is for our Canadian friends too. I’m using Delvac 1 5w40 in one focus and M1 0w30 in the spare 09’ Focus. The lady’s daughter now has M1 0w40 in it with prime guard filter.


Dad used to use 15w40 in his stuff even in winter. Not everything was garaged either.

The ole Kubota fired up yesterday at 22 degrees fahrenheit with supertech 15w40 conventional. Did I create some extra wear metals, not sure, but got rid of an engine on a pallet to a happy buyer.

5w20, 10w40, and 0w40 is what I have in the 3 vehicles now. SBC w 10w40 actually cranked right up easier than the 5w20 in the Honda this morning at -3°f. Now the truck does have a new battery and starter, so probably helped more than anything.

10w30 in the jeep. 5w 30 in the FJ and 15w 40 in the diesel f250.

5w30 Maxlife Blend year round in a moderate climate.

My 28 yr old car specifies 10w30, but in modern times 5w30 oil is better than it used to be and IMO is now better than 10w30 for my car.

I use the same oil all year round; mostly brews. Most often, the majority being 0w-20.
