One word you can not pronounce correctly

During our year in New Zealand, we all misheard a bunch of words before realizing that it was local (Northland) practice to replace a soft e with a hard e.

Thus, what we heard as J.C. was actually Jesse, Bean was actually Ben, and Bee-uh was Bear.

*******

Some transplants from southern Ontario replace a soft a with hard e followed by a soft i - Pam becomes Pee-im, and Sand becomes See-ind.

The Mass town of Hopkinton...I always want to say Hopkington
I near that town too and “everyone” pronounces it that way. Used to live next to Wilmot but I swear, everyone pronounced it “Wilmit”, although to be honest, I didn’t get out that much and talk to “everyone” in the area.

For me, I can’t say aluminum fast. If I stretch it out, speak slowly, I’ll get it right. Otherwise I mumble my way right through it. Instead I just say alloy instead and hope no one notices.
