I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited that has a leather steering wheel that has the original color and finish worn away on the top portion of the steering wheel. You can feel where the "leather" has worn away to a plastic feeling black material underneath- and I only have 28,000 miles on this Jeep and it is always in the garage. I have noticed that there are a high percentage of steering wheels on Jeep Liberty's that look the same way (original tan color with black showing from underneath) so maybe this is just a bad design spec. from Jeep.
Does anyone have experience refinishing steering wheels, and if so, what are my options for refinishing, i.e., taking it to a professional shop, buying a new steering wheel, DIY kit.
FYI- I don't really care for some of the "Steering Wheel Covers" you see on ebay or at Target, Pep Boys and other automotive stores. I prefer a nice factory leather steering wheel if possible.
Any recommendations?
