I had a lot of fun with click training. (get your dog to associate sound of a clicker with treat, then use the clicker to precisely signal good behavior). It wasn't like magic or anything, but it allowed you to work your pup at a much younger age than normal, and was really helpful in the bonding, socialization and overall IQ thing. Taught pup "down" command with a hand-signal at about 8 weeks. Submission accomplished.
