Dude, grow up, there is nothing to laugh at when people are driving what they can afford and be proud of it.

I probably have a net worth of 1M and 70k in cash savings, and have no problem driving 95 Corolla, 93 Escort (with check engine light on and a short in the interior circuit), and 01 Taurus.

It is all in your mind, and if it is people around you, you need better friends.

Did the Cavaliers come with four doors? [Sorry, have not paid attention to that body for years.] I'd buy a four door model now, as kids have a nasty tendancy to just show up. [Well, 9 months later anyhow.] I'm not sure what your situation is, but my wife and I initially planned to pay off our school loans first, that is, to get out of debt, before starting a family. In the end I decided I didn't want to live my life around money, and that there was no good reason to wait "for better times" or some other ideal setup.

Didn't the Cavalier come in a station wagon too?

Sorry Nick, just busting your chops. All the best!

They tend to be easier to hold on long trips, as Nick mentioned. Personal preference, of course.

Sorry this hit you.

They say you and your mom coming and made some serious cash. Hopefully the interest rate on 48 months is less than before if not it is a crime.

Used cars with cash definitely make sense. Buying/selling often with used is peanuts compared to new cars.

And they're cheap.

That's why I still have the 2003 and 2004. he only only thing I've put in the 03 is a fuel pump. And my just needs tires.

After buying my house, I could actually afford a new car right now. But I'd rather enjoy driving me payment and problem free cavs and the Cobalt....

And you could get either a 2 or 4 door too.

Plus, you can have a little more fun with a cheaper car anyways..

Anyway, I'm pretty sure on what I'm gonna do. After I get this taken care of, and it's probably gonna be around tax return time, I'm going to look into getting a used Cavalier. Yes, I said it. A Cavalier? I knew you liked those things...

Good choice for a beater, and of course I could tell you that...

Nick isn't going to buy no cavalier. he's had a taste of the good stuff. new focus, new cruze, and new mazda. it's hard to go back to driving an old car.

Not at all, I'm looking for another 96-99 Saturn SL2 or SW2 because I miss mine. They, at the age they are at, do cost some $ to operate, but I don't care, I miss mine and I want one back. I also to an extent prefer the way the older cars drive. A little more soul if you will. New cars are too boring and muted, just like mine. (I do like the car for what it is though)

I liked my SL, the manual steering might have been a bit heavy in the driveway--but I almost wanted to remove the power brakes, as the car really didn't need them. What sold me it over the Civic was the lower end torque--the motor felt better at the lower revs that it would be used at for most/all of its life. [Which is just as well, as the 1.9 only made noise above 3k, not power.]

The cycle continues, after you buy something used, and have to fix it once or twice you will be right back into a new car.

The people who get roped into this are the exact people who have no business buying new cars. There finances are a mess.

Here is an idea, tell the dealer to go pound sand, and go to a local bank and get a 2% auto loan that they hand out like candy to those people who are really in a financial position to purchase a new vehicle.

But Mr. 550 credit score can't do that, so he signs and pays. Cycle continues.

Did this for my Cruze on a 3 year loan. The high payment sucks every month, especially tossing extra at it. After it's paid off in well under 3 years, it's being kept until it rusts to pieces. By that point I'll have enough in the bank to pay cash for a new car. After doing the payment thing for a year, it's for the birds.

My old car was costing about $400/month in maintenance when it got traded, though. And that was just money, not counting my time hanging parts onto it.

what were you driving which was costing you that kind of maintenance in the parts alone? We are talking about $5000 worth of parts every year :-( Was it a used Maserati or something like that??

Sounds like VW owners I know.

It was a Buick LeSabre, that through sitting for 3 years before I got it, had lots of problems it should not otherwise have had.

After a few months of throwing lots of money/time at it and seeing a jack go straight through a key piece of unibody one night, it was time to cut my losses.

I learned a lot of life's lessons the hard way too. Good luck.

But how much credit card debt do you have ?

$500, from the laptop I just bought, after making the payment, why?

Sorry to hear that you are having "issues" with the transaction.

My advice is if you signed x per month for x months then fight it. You READ the contract and it stated the terms and anything else is fraud.

You have a excellent vehicle and do need to make/find excuses not to fight. If you want to re-fi it later or keep it for a few years (since you have taken the initial hit on value (like the Focus and Cruze)) and might as well run it for a few years THEN sell it or trade it since the value is going to be close to the same.

I'm sure EVERYONE can find faults with anything if they want out of it (called remorse) but nothing is perfect. Some are closer than others but if you were my kid (be thankful you are not
48.gif
) I'd really have you stick with the Mazda.

Each and every time you make a "deal" you DO LOOSE $$$ and it all adds up.

Then you are 40 something with a boat load of debt wondering what the heck happened... (as what is the highest age group with the most unsecured debt/ collage loans)

Take care, bill
