Probably worthy of its own thread, but: how good are they? I try to keep an idea on what's out there, for when it comes time to replace my truck (thinking 2WD Suburban), but internet lore seems to go back and forth (weak brakes on 1500's, TBI is low power, Vortec injection is problematic).

The 1500 brakes are weak, the TBI is low power, and the Vortex "spider" injection is dumb. However, these are upgradeable, tolerable, and fixable. GMT400 is my forever truck

FWIW my forever truck is my 2012 4.3 Silverado. All the bugs have been worked out by then and it's been well maintained. I only have about 30K miles on it so at that pace it will probably outlive me. The old body style are good trucks. Any issue with them are DIYable.
