Somewhere the Hall and Oates song "Sarah Smile" was playing and got imprinted into my head. Now it keeps coming back in my mind while I am going about my business. I can't stand it. That song is pathetic! How do I get it out of my head? Maybe play AC/DC Dirty Deeds over and over an over until it's gone?

Sometimes it takes a more irritating earworm to drive out the previous one. Naturally one eventually gets cursed with the ultimite king of irritating songs.

For me, this is it:

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconson
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.

Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind

When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.

The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does anyone know where the love of [censored] goes
When the words turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd fifteen more miles behind her.

They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

"Maybe play AC/DC Dirty Deeds over and over an over until it's gone? "

This made me laugh because my wife listens to "lite rock" and came in one day when that was on my radio... she thought it was "dirty knees with big feet." Now whenever I hear that song I think of dirty knees WITH BIG FEET!

Hey hey! "I can't go for that" is my fave subaru song during my teenage years.

I used to associate that with a particular subie minivan that I like in the 80s... I lost my plastic model for that one thou.

need an bigger, fatter earworm/earwig to chase this one out fer sure.

Q.

Try having someone e-mail you a link to Samwell's "What What" video and then not being able to get those lyrics out of your head.

I could handle the Lightfoot song. Once heard a song to the Edmund Fitzgerald tune called "the Wreck of the 56 DeSoto." It was about a drunken drive down Grand River Avenue here in NW Detroit. Pretty funny. Had all the elements of the Fitzgerald song made over to the DeSoto wreck on Grand River.

That was no help Tempest. Now "I can't go for that" is going in my head.

Maybe a Simon and Garfunkel song would do it.

OUCH! That is painful

I'll have to listen to Felice Navidad a few times...

..but right now "I can't go for that" seems to be sticking like fungus with a vengence ....." ...no can do..." AGHHHHH!!!! (runs off screaming).

Guess I am affecting everybody here. Shouldn't have posted it in the first place and we would all be better off.

To make matters worse, I am off to the dentist with a toothache.

LOL! That's funny. A buddy of mine loves "Sarah Smiles" and thinks it's the best song by Hall and Oates. GAY!

I need to go watch some Cordoba commercials. Perhaps some Rich (or soft) Corinthian leather can erase this from my mind.

LOL! Thank you, Mr. Montalban.

Hey - Has anybody seen Taylor Swift's new song called "Our Song"...?

...cause it's late and your mama don't know.

Hall and Oates... now I've gotta hear "rich girl". :)

I recommend "Brand new Key" by Melanie to cure any incessant melody. Or something from Janis Joplin or post-crash Dylan.
