Your new car is watching you and collecting data

Ford feels the need to put a warning pop up message on the display to remind me. I don’t care I like the convenience of the FordPass app and I am not very interesting anyway, anyone spying on me will be really bored. 😛
You say that but if this is the starting point, where does it end. Not many of us have anything to hide but there are principles here

My Apple watch asked me if I fell recently. I hadn't. Didn't even jolt it. I don't mind the watch watching me 9pun intended) as I live alone.

Actually you can set driver profiles in some and if you record enough data on driving habits it wouldn't be too hard to figure out who is driving and when.
And if so, so what if you're not doing something illegal? There is some tin foil hat mentality here. You would have to have thousands of employees monitoring millions of drivers to get meaningful data, and for what? So they can target some advertising to you more precisely? I'm all for that.

It wouldn't take more employees, data gets categorized in a massive DB with id markers and all you have to do is a reciruvuse search for such person qualities, at such time, with such criteria to get a meaningful plot point. Total anonymity and they wouldn't want to know because it would be a liability hell hole. Meta data & metrics 101. Personally I know I am 100% identifiable in my household for driving, I speed, late brake, pass more often than not. My wife...sunday church lady.

Exactly. If total anonymity, why is everybody in a tizzy?

The new Subaru Outback I’m renting not only has a camera facing the driver to make sure your eyes are on the road (and alarms if they’re not!), but it also says in the options there are facial recognition features as well. The system has a button to tease you that you’re turning it off, but after about 5 seconds the system turns itself back on automatically!

A simple piece of tape across the eyebrow in the dash where the camera hides defeats that system 😉

I had a 2018 Silverado and the paint was beyond terrible. I understand GM has a new paint facility that came online. Maybe that will help. Yes-you did well on resale. That's a good thing about trucks.
I have owned or do own every series truck and full size SUV from the 60's on up, and by FAR, these new trucks are the worst ever. Look cool, ride smooth, bunch of power, but they are not going to last like the GMT400 or 800, no way.

I have never seen such a used market for these trucks with many having 20k miles on the clock. Goes to show I am not the only one who feels this way.

Thinking about buying this gem.

these were the best trucks ever made mile for mile in my opinion.

I zoomed in on the front of that truck. With 54,000 miles on it-there should be at least a couple of dings on the hood. I am doubting that's original paint-but I could be wrong.

Nice truck tho.

I mean the body matching cap on the back screams "geezer sunday driving" truck to me. It was probably garaged the entire time and never so much if any highway. Probably mostly back roads in IL.

LOL on matching camper shell comment. I kind of agree. The sales guy said it was from Washington State, but you know they always tell the truth.

I did decide not to pursue this truck at its current price. That place has some rare birds though, such as a 2006, 8.1 4x4, with the ZF6

Let's see...
1.My phone tracks me. Even shows pop up ads for things I was merely thinking about. Not to mention my News topics.
2.There are cameras at every intersection.
3.Credit cards track my spending.
4.Every house on the block has a RING camera.
5.And every so often I get calls from pleasant Indian call centers trying to sell me free Healthcare and/or an extended auto warranty (they just need my SS#). Yes they know my name too.

All to say...this ain't nothing new.

New models from Toyota, Chevrolet and Ford are collecting driver data and sharing it with carmakers.

Your new car doesn’t exactly know where you’re going, but it certainly knows where you’ve been. And it’s sharing all your sensitive data with carmakers like Ford, Toyota, and Chevrolet — as well as shady third parties in certain cases, according to Wired. Modern cars have come to rival smartphones in terms of data collection, reportedly producing up to 25 gigabytes of data per hour.

It can go ahead and track me.
My life is pretty boring, interspersed with moments of really boring.
I don't go to underground fight clubs or casinos, no back alley drug deals, or other shady activities.
On a fancy day I take my 6 year old to the public pool for a swim, hit the grocery store on the way home, and occasionally stop by the icecream stand to get us a treat.
Most days its maybe a parts run to kenworth or star, and swing by the volvo equipment dealer for some hydraulic oil.
Once or twice a month I take my girls out to dinner somewhere, last time was Boston pizza.

Track me all you want to everyone, I'm the most boring guy on earth, so have fun with my data lol

We have this turned off on our 2022 4Runner.

Whatever helps you sleep better.

But I would bet that the so called 'off' position is really just to make some people feel better.

Between satellites, street cams, store cams, cellphones, cars, and everything else out there, nobody truly has privacy and anonymity anymore.

I live on a large amount of land, way out in the countryside, and still don't believe that they, the government and whoever else, cannot see everything that I do.

But for me it doesn't matter at all.
If someone wants to watch me take a leak on a tree from their satellite, well enjoy the view whoever you are.

Heck they monitor the pee and poop people flush down the toilet nowadays.

Looks like Little Johnny could use with eating some more veggies, and must have skipped his antidepressants a few days this week.
