'90s country?

Like Kenny Chesney's sexy tractor. C'mon, he should have stuck to trying to rhyme coconut and flip flop with those hack attempt at being a country-pop Jimmy Buffet

That "Chris Gaines" Garth Brooks thing?

Brooks and Dunn's "Boot Scootin' Boogie"

Shania Twain...the country music Chad Kroeger. Thanks Canada.

And, just barely edging out Vanilla Ice for being the worst part of '90s music, Miley Cyrus' Dad and his Achey Breakey Heart.

That was actually around 1980...along with the title track from the album: the stirring Some Gave All.

So country's not your thing, or you just didn't like 90s country?

I don't like '90s Country.

That being said, it is preferable to today's country which is all pop noise sung with a nasally twang.

I really think I started to dislike country listening to Eddie Rabbitt play over and over and over again on the jukebox at the coffee-shop I bussed tables at when I was a kid. Occasionally someone would cough up a quarter and play Willie Nelson and I thank them for that. I still dig Willie.

Credit where credit is due, that crossover country-pop noise that Rabbitt was playing became the mainstream. It is country music now.

Sounds like you're more into classic country...nothing wrong with that...Eddie Rabbitt was awesome!...FWIW, I preferred the female artists to the male ones in the 90s...Reba, Martina McBride, Tanya Tucker, Lorrie Morgan, Faith Hill, Suzy Boggus, Pam Tillis, Sara Evans, Shania, just to name a few, though there were some good male artists then too, I preferred the women...

Same here. I love Eddie Rabbitt and the female country singers!! Driving My Life Away by Eddie Rabbitt is one of my favorite songs of all time. A 90s female singer I love who I was listening to the other day,Shelby Lynne.

Almost everyone has a nostalgia for the music of their youth. The good old days. A lot of selective memories, conveniently forgetting the terrible stuff that was out then too. Even our favorite bands have some duds.

100% correct and perfectly said.

This not only applies to music but also to tv shows, movies, sports, pretty much everything.

(Modern "pop"/rap/Top 40) Music also was never as purely sexual and trashy as it is today.

This Nicki Minaj character. .. offends me.

As do others..

^^^ It is also troublesome that these trash are given the same respect as regular "artists" of days of yore, and the new breed KNOWS that they will make $$$$$$$ doing things guaranteeing them headlines. Cho cha flopping at Grammys, making a porno, being insulting and openly bi, rapping about it, etc. And, again... 5% of songs catching on.. the rest being so bad, the radio won't even play, except for late night on weekends on a DJ show for maybe a week. That is bad, folks.

All I know is when I listen to some of the music from today I think back of my father asking me, what's that s--it you're listening to. I'm beginning to sound just like him.

I'm quite sure there is some quality modern music, I simply don't want to wade through the cesspool of filth and trash music around today in order to find it. Therefore I choose to listen to big band, swing, classical, and music from the 40's and 50's.

I have no desire to listen to obscene lyrics filled with negative messages, mouthed by people wearing more bling than a 57 Cadillac and more tattoos than a gang member in prison, who's only talent is the ability to market themselves to people who admire such trash.

ha!

I'd hope that any reasonably enlightened person would expand their horizons a bit, but this is spot on.

I suspect that many of the big band, swing and related musicians also had their vices and issues, but they seemed to keep them better hidden.

Sad to see that Perry girl (not Katy) singing at the Christmas in Washington show the other night. Beautiful girl with a beautiful voice, who IMO marked up her body in a very unattractive way.

Yeah, I know. All I hear when Im out and about is [censored] Christmas music. So sick of it I could eat a bullet. I cannot wait for New Years when I won't have to hear any until November again.

I don't know if anything is worse than muskrat love by the captain and tennille. Iggy makes junk, but I really believe worse exists. I'm sorry, but there was a huge quantity of absolute garbage made in the 1970's. Some absolutely wonderful stuff too.

Talking about garbage,
