What Year Did you Start Using Synthetic Motor Oil?

1991

Was a '91 Mercury Capri turbo. Dealer that I knew well said they had a number of them back w/ coked turbo's from 'kids'...suggested syn so I used Castrol Syntec (the 'real' stuff back then...stir that hornet's nest

) 5W-50. Really enjoyed that car...poor man's Lotus Elan M100...

2004, Amsoil in a 2000 Jeep with the 4.0.

Was driving 30k per year, had been reading here a lot and started going longer on OCIs.

Circa 1979 using Amsoil in a 1977 Toyota Corona. Quickly switched over to Mobil 1. In those days, the suggested oil change interval for both Mobil 1 and Amsoil was 25,000 miles.

Am now a 40 year user of M1 oils.

UPDATE!!!! Now 42 years using M1 oils.

Probably 30-something years and still not doing past 8k … so this cyber trophy clearly goes to Tig

Good evening BB ~
Nope … but I have a shadow box (made from an antique gun powder case) that has pretty old oil cans still full

1987 - Mobil 1 in my new '87 Buick Grand National. From there on it's been Mobil 1 in everything I drive including lawn equip.

1984 new Nissan pickup. Every 6K miles. That was an extended oci in those days. Well, almost. Carbureted but went 240k miles flawlessly before losing an argument with a cow. Didn't even break in for 30K miles.

Incredible mileages by my family members on some really plebeian cars the same way.
