Just realized the OP is in Wisconsin. They’re practically Canadians. Come on up and pick up a Canadian Tire Motomaster OE Plus in Gangsta’ Black. LOL

The PH6017A motorcycle filter is $6.63 and the XG6607 is $9.42 at Walmart.

The XG6607 is a much better filter. I'm thinking of running one for two OCIs after seeing how good they look after one. Change my motorcycle oil every 3-4,000 miles. The XG filters are rated for 15-20,000 miles with synthetic.

The only difference is the bypass pressure is lower than spec on the golds, at least for mine.

I've been running the TG6607 on my Vic for years.

The act of preventative maintenance, in and of itself, is FAR MORE important than brand/grade/base choices among lubes and filters.
- under maintaining something is akin to abuse/neglect; that can kill equipment by shortening the lifespan
- over maintaining something has never been proven to be anything but a waste of time and money

Why black ... ?

Go with something BOLD, like these red Baldwin filters ... ! Or the purple HKS filters ( only $ 32.00 each on Amazon ... ! ). Just screams LOOK AT MY OIL FILTER !!! I'm sure someone must be into that kind of stuff ...

Or this beauty ...

What on earth is so special about those HKS filters? Good lord, I thought Amsoil filters were pricey! Lol

HiFlo motorcycle filters are black too. I think you want the HF204, or you can get the racing version, which has a nut on it. HiFlo makes at least some of the K&N filters. http://www.hiflofiltro.com/catalogue/filter/hf204
