All these years I have been using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic ATF in my rack and pinion steering. It eliminated the cold start growl the factory fill GM PS fluid generated.

Apparently this Mobil 1 ATF is being discontinued and I am looking for a replacement and came across Castrol Transmax at a really good price at Costco

It is a lower viscosity oil, 5.9 cSt at 100C vs 7.4 for Mobil. Will this lower viscosity oil still work well in my truck's steering?

I've been running Mobil 1 0W-20 in my power steering with great success. You know how those darn Fords love to growl... it's a LOT quieter than with "el Cheapo" power steering fluid

I get M1 ATF from AAP. I have used M1 ATF since about 1990 and have never had a PS pump failure. Performs very well in xtream temps, hot or cold.

Castrol Synthetic ATF is very good stuff

If Mobil 1 ATF gets eliminated, I wonder what Tremec will used as recommendations for a Synthetic ATF on their T-5/45/56's. Conventional ATF is the only fluid besides Mobil 1 that is recommended/approved.

M1 ATF is usually my go-to, if that Castrol fluid is anything like MaxLife it should work just fine. I've used both in power steering.

The older GM's that towed heavy around here used the M1 - VI is high. I can't hardly find the Castrol anymore (only the Import version) so might have to phase it out ...
