I'm reading this and feel like people think the analytical equipment actually tags and counts each particle or something. The measurement machines have their own standard deviations, errors, etc. right now we're speculating in weeds of something that is outside of analytical capability.
I suspect there is an ASTM or similar method that defines how the analytical approach and treatment (both of the specimen and numerically) works. Recommend that be reviewed prior to further speculation. Letting this one rest for a bit as it has turned to bickering and speculation.
