Vehicle Sighting - 1959 Chevy Biscayne 2-door sedan

As a then seven-year-old, I thought those fins were the coolest thing. When traveling in the back seat of my parents' car, I'd count the '59 Chevys that I saw.
I have a distant memory, which may be two memories juxtaposed. I'm 4 or 5 and running down a treed street. (This was in the era of children going free-range.) I'm running toward the tailend of a parked '59 Chevy, and I am in awe of the space-age styling. It is lightyears ahead of Dad's '49 Mercury Monarch or Grandpa's '49 Plymouth.

Then I look up and see a swept-wing 4-engined jetliner leaving bold contrails, a Douglas DC-8 or a Boeing 707, and think "Ah! The modern age is here!"

neato as many older cars ARE!! looks COOL but unless upgraded poor brakes + handling! had a 62 from an estate sale 283 + 2 spd powerslide, a big boat that served me well for a 100 thou. mine was lowered as well with chromed steelies + baby moons!! older cars had style unlike modern "cookie cutters"!!

the Great Lakes Dragaway. That is still operating today - the oldest continuously operating dragstrip in the world. Union Grove, WI.

Ahh, my old stomping grounds. I raced many miles there (1/4 mile at a time) in my wild 1970s teen hotrod days. There are not many drag strips left.

The seagull wings were a characteristic feature. The 1960 got them as well. Here is a 60 El Camino.

Those were stylish both front and rear.

I've never seen an El Camino of that vintage before. Many thanks.
I'd love to see that tailgate opened.

That tailgate as I recall was heavy. All the styling was on the outside. Once the tailgate was lowered it was a nice flat surface for hauling lumber. I knew someone that had either a 59 or a 60.

I fell in love years back with a yellow 60 ElCamino at a car show.
If I ever hit the lottery I would instantly go on the hunt for one. I had a 62 Impala in high school that had a 327/300hp and I have always been partial to that engine. GM has a seafoam green 59 ElCamino in their heritage collection. I got to drool over it for a while about 5 yrs ago. It was absolutely flawless and likely nicer than the day it was first built. I would do some evil things to own that car/truck
