Wifey's 2006 TSX, 180K miles, perfect condition.
I grabbed the Idemitsu 0w20 instead of the Mobil1 5w20 High Milage...
The oil filler cap sez 5w30; but Acura switched to 5w20 years ago; so so did I.

Winter is coming, but this is Los Gatos (Silicon Valley) CA.
Would you dump it?

I could dump it an put it in her 2018 RX450h, right?
She loves her TSX...

Maybe I'll mix in some old school Rotella?
All good. Thanks guy.

"You have to be kidding. Eight years on this board and that's really a question?"

Great answer!

Acura did not backspec the first gen TSX to 5w20.

I'm sure Xw20 is fine, but 5w30 is still spec'd for the 04-08 TSX.

Love the TSX, btw. I've got an '06 also. Mine's a manual. I've put 235k of its 245k miles it. It's been essentially flawless (besides a steering rack at 100k). Still on the original clutch, even.

The cart that I am looking at says to run 5w30, 5w20/0w20 became an option in 2009. So I would be running 5w30, unless there is a more updated chart out there that I am missing.

If I lived in CA and had a 2006 with 180K miles and oil cap said 5Wx30 .... I would use 10Wx30. The lowest I would go would be a 5Wx30 on the thicker side of the spec. But if someone put 0Wx20 in my car, I would let it go (and monitor it) till next oil change then will change it to 5/10Wx30.

What I want to know is what exactly changed inside of these engines between 2004 and 2011.

Looking at aquariuscsm's chart above, the 2006 TSX of the OP (JeffKeryk) is not technically back-spec'ed to 0w20 nor 5w20.
In general, when you see an engine maker spec 5w20 exclusively (no 0w20 allowed) is because they think 0w20 has too much VII and will shear too thin during a normal OCI.

Interesting stuff... A couple of things:
I am really anal about car maintenance.
I am a computer programmer for custom, large scale data analytics and information.
I have been working a lotta hours: too much sitting and too much concentration. I'm mentally tired.
Servicing the TSX today was a welcome change, but I felt pretty dumb after i realized my mistake.

The K24 in Hondas specs 5w20; I have serviced other cars with this engine.
I realize the Acura version is rated higher horsepower; I imagine that's the reason for 5w30.
Certainly Accords and CR-vs are heavier...

I switched to 5w20 on the advice of the local Acura dealer.
Again, I thank all of you for your guidance.

I will tell you this: The trans has had a steady diet of DW-1 fluid.
Today I serviced the trans with Idemitsu Type H; it definitely pulls better.

Mine (K24Z3) specs 0W20. I wonder if the TSX engine has anything internally different than the Accord engine?

Interesting... may be why Hyundai/Kia recommend 5w20.
