Update on the 2022 Kia Soul - my first issue

Road noise from a Kia Soul would mitigate going too crazy on the sound system.

The noise level isn't that bad in both '25 Souls . It's 54.8 dB with a sound level meter at 55 m.p.h. in the video at 16:18 . They have a list of sound levels for vehicles they test drove at their site . https://carconfections.com/sound-level-readings/ . Also has sound levels for electric vehicles .

I wouldn't own a vehicle that is a favorite of the Hamster community

If I owned one I'd have to put a hellhami sticker on it!

Be nice if KIA would give you the HARMAN KARDON Premium Audio System that's in the '25 EX with the Soulmate Special Edition Package . ;)

Forgot Audiovox and Nippon . Started out with those .

Actually , the 1st car stereo was a REALISTIC 8 track player and their 6" ( or 5" ? ) round speakers w/ whizzer cone put in wood boxes made in high school woodshop which were placed behind the front seats on the floor of a used '67(?) Volkswagen Beetle ( 1st car ) . Listened to LED ZEPPELIN (debut ) , LED ZEPPELIN II , BLUE OYSTER CULT - " Some Enchanted evening " ( Live ) and a few others .

The dealer should go to bat for you; when I worked at BMW we would
try to get an issue covered. That said, being a loyal customer increased the chances of getting an out of warranty repair covered (not our policy, but BMW's).

Your other option for OEM is google "Discount Kia Online parts" They all are a bit different in parts price and shipping price, I check for total cost. If you own a Hyundai, Google the same but for Hyundai online parts discount, get the part # and then go to the Kia sites and get even more discounts as parts are the same parts as Hyundai, but at a 10% to 20% discount. You get a feel who are actual brick and mortar Kia dealers and I usually go for them as less chance for counterfeits.

Honestly the Service Manager should be fighting for your goodwill repair. Especially since you’re having the dealer do all the maintenance services. I guess times have changed…
Yeah, here is his email and he clearly wants nothing to do with advocating for goodwill. I have not done all maintenance there, just some.

"Good morning. I looked into this this morning and found that unfortunately, the radio on your vehicle is not covered under warranty as it is out of the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. I will attach the warranty info for your vehicle below for you to review. The only way I can move forward with the replacement of the radio on your vehicle would be as follows: parts and labor are $987.29 before tax, and the radio would need to be prepaid in the parts department.

Please note, I understand this may be frustrating as it does not fall under the rest of Kia's warranties. But for any goodwill/coverage inquiries when the vehicle is out of the factory warranty, please call Kia consumer affairs at 1-800-333-4542.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to further assist you."

It has been being abused by teen drivers over the past 3 years. Went to the body shop 3x on someone else's dime. I'm not kidding that it went to the body shop 3x in the first 3 months of ownership, the first 2x separated by 2 weeks, because two of my kid's friends ran into it parked in the driveway and one kid at school ripped the entire front bumper off with his F250 diesel pulling out of an adjacent parking lot at school. Then 6 months ago the 18 year side swiped a tree that I have not gotten fixed because that would be on my dime and it's just cosmetic.

It's cheap, it's paid off, if I get 100k miles out of the powertrain that will get all kids through college and out of the house, and if it's worth nothing at that point, it was still worth the $22k.

yep kia and hyundai america's worst warranty..

IIRC battery at one time was covered for 2 years 24month.

The warranty didnt cover the gear shifter overdrive button shorting out..
stuff like that

Not really, noise canceling headphones will mitigate road noise. A nice sound system will just sound not nice and mix with the road noise, which defeats the purpose of installing a nice sound system in the first place.

You want a high quality sound system in the quietest vehicle possible to actually enjoy it.
He's a young kid could care less about road noise on a car he wants a nice stereo system

That's inexcusable; the service manager is just lazy and/or wants to either get rid of you or get you to pony up for a new radio.
That would have been my last visit to that dealer.

Well, if it makes it any better I didn't buy the car from them either and while I've done some maintenance there, I do all the easy stuff myself. They're just my closest dealership. It's fine, the salvage radio came today and it's in perfect condition. Should take me about 10 mins to switch it out and life goes on.

Finally got around to changing out the radio. For a couple hundred, removing one trim piece, 4 screws, 5 connectors, and 7 mins of my time, I have a fully functional radio again.

Thank you for the idea of the salvage yard!
