Please explain.

There is no "obsession." Most people, including in your own state, simply use the oil recommended by the OEM's, such as in this official Toyota oil chart.

Very enlightened information. The notes indicating E85 just prove my points on how destructive and useless that ethanol garbage is to reduce oci down to 2500 miles.

At operating temperature, 0W oil isn't lighter. Maybe that's where you're getting confused.

Anyone who has drained oil at the limit of the 8,000 mile synthetic oci must have seen it runs out like charcoaled paint thinner due to unburned gasoline blowby and sheer. If it goes in 5W20 what is the viscosity index when it comes out?

Another effect of fuel leaking into the crankcase is oil dilution. This causes the lubricant to lose viscosity, meaning that the films formed are weaker and less capable of withstanding high loads that can occur at certain points, such as the rod bearings and crankshaft areas.

What happens if the viscosity becomes too low? This causes contact between the metal surfaces, leading to rapid wear of the bearings due to friction.
