I just think of the Metallica stuff as deep lyrics, not creepy. James is a hell of a lyricist. Sanitarium, Fade to Black, Lepper Messiah, Ronnie, King Nothing...etc....or "One" by Metallica. The school shooting song, where the carnie-type "happy" melody stands in stark contrast with the extremely dark lyrics, IMHO, that's creepy as hell.

Yes sir, saw tears for fears early on .That was actually written by Tears for Fears, but Gary Jules version is definitely darker (haunting ?), almost like he transposed it from a major key to a minor key.
