I typically change the oil on a new engine between 500-1000 miles. This filter came off my 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 with the 2.7L Turbo engine at just under 700 miles.

Inflow is certainly no problem. Great looking filter, thanks for the cut and post.
Yeah, holes ahoy! Even if there were only half as many holes on that base plate, the dP across it would still be very small. Too much swiss cheese of the base plate can actually weaken it.

Seems a bit much - but think the angle they produced can only help when the threads energize the gasket …
(works like a roofing system) …

If there's too much material taken out of the base due to the holes, the base plate can flex too much. Maybe they made the plate thick enouch to acceot that many large holes. It seens overkill to me, and doesn't really make any difference in the dP across the base plate if you run the dP calculations.

I'd do the math if i had the numbers and and figure out the overall area of all the inlet holes and to the outlet. Seems to be more than that which wouldn't be beneficial except in priming but even then it's still excessive.

I can tell just by looking in this case the total area of the inlet holes would be way greater than the outlet going into the filter mount gallery. The gallery in the filter mount is going to be smaller than the threaded center hole in the base plate.

He talks about the base plate flex and how it could cause leaks.
