Replacing a leaky natural gas valve

I think I know what the steel fitting is, or at least an equivalent.

The 3/8” flare side was forced into a 1/2” FIP fitting with a lot of RectorSeal 5 at the tip against the valve fitting. The 1/2” MIP side is odd, as there’s also a 3/8” FIP fitting inside. Anyone know what this is meant for?

Just a way of having the fitting multi task. You have 1/2 Male if you need it, or if you happen to need 3/8 female, its built in and don't need a reducing bushing.
