What do you think?

I'm glad I put a Pro Tec 159.

Regards,

Scott

Pronto, premium guard and Eco guard are at the bottom of the slime pile. Pro Tec=WIX made. Them and Parts Master or genuine wix and Napa gold good to go

Are those holes in the media in line with holes in the center tube?

With some winter starts at -15 degrees.....I would switch to a 0w20 blend or synthetic, a Fram TG filter, and extend your OCI to 6k to 7K. Its will save you time (oil change) and $$$. Using a bottom tier filter is not doing as good a job filtering, as a mid-tier TG would.

The bypass valve does look small, depends how far it opens. It's a large engine in cold weather, needs bypass flow rate equal to OE specs.Probably that combined with subpar media caused the problem. Thanks for showing a filter never to buy.

Wow what a cheap piece of [censored]. These Chinese and Korean filters just don't seem to be worth it, since quality American filters are widely available for just about the same price, like CQ Red, the Wix-made economy filters (Pro-Tec, Napa Silver/Proselect, Microgard, etc), Casite, etc.

Pro-Tec will be MUCH better, as will the new SuperTech (made by Wix, most likely a Pro-Tec clone)

+1 ... buy something more well known for quality.

I had one more Pronto PO4651 on the shelf.

Needless to say....... it is now in my recycling bin ready for the curb on Tuesday.

Scott

You should cut it open first before trashing, just to take a peek.

The centre tube looks similar to the OEM KIA/Huyndai filter. And it confirms what I did not like about the OEM KIA filter - large holes. The media sucks into the holes under pressure restricting the flow (in my opinion). If this Pronto has had a better filter media it wouldn't have broken though the holes. But the problem is still there - very large holes.

The very edge of the pleat "V" would have to line up just right with a center tube hole for that to happen. The two or so holes popped through the media seems to have been lined up just right with a hole.

This is where louvers might come in handy.

is that 3rd pic from the top before you cut the filter open? if so, looks like the ADBV was installed backwards. The side of the Anti Drainback Valve facing the oil hole inlets should be the smooth side to form a complete seal. It looks like the side with the raised ridges is facing the oil inlets, which would make is impossible to form a complete seal.

If you look at the last photo, it looks like the ADBV was installed correctly based on the concave shape, and also the center hole area where it fits around the end cap on the filter element.

ZeeOSix, I agree the last pic is how it should be installed, but the 3rd pic from the top, as well as the 5th pic from the top show the exact opposite of that. If the OP could confirm how the ADBV was installed when he opened the filter, it would help. I have never seen those raised ridges showing through the oil inlet holes (as in the 3rd pic from the top).
