Blackstone responded yesterday, test at 9279 miles on vehicle, 3046 on oil, quoting:
Another good report. Wear metals compare to universal averages this time, so it looks like most of the wear-in material has made its exit, there might be slightly more progress from here, but even just a stable Wear pattern from here would suggest good mechanical health. Fuel dropped to 1.0% in the total sample volume, which is preferable to the 3.5% we noted last time. The viscosity remained in spec (SUS Viscosity @210F was 49.7 (46-57 allowable ) an cSt viscosity @100C was 7.18 (6.0-9.7 allowable) Flashpoint was 366 <385 @ allowable vs 315 last time. And low insolubles show proper oil filtration.
Sorry, unable to paste the entire report, but that's the jist of it. I know Blackstone has it's limitations, but still not bad. The Honda filter seems to be doing a decent job, I'll be sticking with the Mobil1 0w20 EP and trying a 4000 mile interval next time. Engine remains quiet and smooth with little if any rise on the stick and obviously no apparent consumption. Using only Toptier fuel or BP 87. Mobil1 5W-30 EP remains a viable option, but the 0w20 EP seems to be doing OK at least with shorter intervals. Wife's CRV continues to get Mobil1 5W-30 EP twice a year, but with only 3k/yr cheaper to change than to UOA. It's still a dilluter with only short local drives and minimal highway use. Will probably give in and do a UOA this summer.
