Next month we are moving from South Carolina to Washington State. I typically move every two to three years. This time, moving ten months after moving from Utah to South Carolina. I am in my late 50's, and my back is not doing so well. Decided to adjust my moving box strategy. One thing I think that is very important to anyone moving across the USA and has a decent amount of stuff. Never every use "free" boxes. Free boxes don't stack and pack efficiently.
I am trying to pack everything in Wal-Mart "extra strength" small and extra strength medium boxes. with the goal of 75 percent of boxes be the small boxes. For larger items, I am combing the small boxes into "doubles" and "triples". My doubles and triples should stack near exact as two individual or three individual small boxes. The small size boxes hopefully will be easier on my back as the hold less weight.
Of note, I ordered the boxes from Wal Mart. Wal-mart no longer has a decent qty of any one size boxes at their stores. Wal-mart use to stock the "extra strength" small, but I am no longer seeing those boxes in the store. It took three weeks for my box order to arrive. Picking up boxes at the store is awkward, having them delivered to the front door is awesome.
And finally, building boxes is labor intensive. Watching a TV show while building the boxes makes the job a lot nicer. And finally, use a high quality tape, purchased in bulk. Tape can be very pricey, so shop around and get a decent price. every box needs three strips of tape on the bottom, and the box should be square when taping the bottom.
Just sharing some tips, techniques, and procedures that works for me.
