Maybe there's a demographic component to all this. Just not enough viable workers to go around. Funny how wages aren't climbing to compete with the available able bodies.
You can lead the sheeple to the water but you can't force then to drink.

Costco here has not had any Mobil 1 all month. They had a coupon for October. I went in every weekend. No Mobil 1, coupon expired.

To add to the noise, I was in Farm & Fleet today and their stocks of M1 (as well as Castrol, FWIW) were gone. I think there were maybe two cases of assorted Castrol products and one (count em, ONE) quart of M1 0W-40. That was it. There was a sign posted saying that there'd be no more M1 until (IIRC) November 22.

Just went to Autozone and Walmart, Mobil oil, includes M1, of any type and weight are plentiful at Autozone. At WM, I counted less than 8 quart bottles and 6 5-qt jugs of M1, they have limited sign of 1 5-qt jug of M1 per customer per day. Pennzoil Yellow jugs are everywhere.

Right next to 5-qt jugs PP at $23 are several rows PP in quart bottles for $4.01. Closed by are 5-qt jugs Valvoline Synpower for $18.

I'll share some 0w30 from my stash... 6 quart max, local pickup, $5/qt, southern maine.

Costco in Sandy, UT (SLC area) is swimming with M1. Was there yesterday and there had to be 5 full pallets of different grades.

ExxonMobil lifts some US base oil allocations
HOUSTON (ICIS news)--[1]ExxonMobil has lifted its sales controls on
some base oils in the US, just as its Beaumont lube units in Texas
came back on line, the company said on Wednesday.

"Our Beaumont lube plant is now receiving additional supply of
conventional base stocks at a rate that enabled it to lift, effective
[on] 28 October 2008, the 100% salesb control announced on 26
September to its customers," ExxonMobil spokeswoman Prem Nair said.

Recent shipping reports have revealed that ExxonMobil is bringing in
the necessary base stocks needed from its facilities in Europe and
Asia.

Conventional base stocks are base oils that do not contain
polyalphaolefins (PAO).

Allocations and or sales controls on Mobil 1 synthetics and other
lubricants containing PAOs remain in effect because of the continued
shutdown of the chemical PAO plant, also at Beaumont, Texas, Nair
said.
The plant is expected to resume operations at year's end. It has
remained [2]shut down since Hurricane Ike hit on 13 September.

ExxonMobil said it was managing the disruption to its PAO base oil
supply through a number of steps that include implementation of
stringent product allocation to enable fair supply and fulfilment of
the most critical customer requirements.

"We have also started the purchase of available third-party PAO
barrels, consolidated limited industrial synthetic inventories into
one warehouse to extend supply and shifted production of some
automotive synthetics to alternative overseas facilities," Nair said.

What seems odd about this statement?

As I said earlier....Korean based synthetics....not that any major or minor corp. would buy or manufacture in a foreign country?

I just heard from my Mobil distributor that Mobil 1 allocations will be eased up beginning in December. I can also get my Delvac 1 again. Hooray!
