LG Washer and Dryer

Our Speed Queen washer and dryer are both close to 19 years old and we never had an issue.

I've been saying for a few years that when our current washer and dryer die, I'm buying Speed Queen units. Well, the dryer quit a couple months ago and admittedly, it was probably only one of the thermal-related bits, but to get to them requires complete disassembly of the dryer and that's just to diagnose it properly ! I gritted my teeth and told my wife we're buying a Speed Queen. I called the local furniture and appliance store and spoke to the co-owner about the models and even had her pencil us in for delivery/installation the next day. All we had to do was go look at the models and decide which one.

It runs so smooth and quiet too ! No wobbling or vibrating like every dryer we've had before. I'm not looking forward to it ($$$), but when the washer hiccups, it's probably gone quick ! It will be the first time we've had matching units too 'cause I don't care about that, nor will I replace a working unit when the other dies.

The drive shaft on their washers is what really impressed me. I was a designer for a big chemical pump manufacturer and the washer shaft was just as stout as the shafts we made for those pumps.

Our Speed Queen washer is about 4 years old now. It is great.
It is noisy because apparently, the tub is enclosed in a metal drum.
So you will hear it humming a little bit.

We still have the original Whirlpool dryer but we don't use the dryer that much.
The SQ washer was replacing a 27 years Whirlpool which was still running at that time but intermittently the spin cycle did not start anymore. Or the washer did not want to start. I did not want to trouble shoot it anymore.

Granted, my units are only 9 months old, but I have nothing but good things to say about the LG front load washer and heat pump dryer I got a while back. The dryer in particular made a noticeable difference in the power bill even though it does take a while longer to dry the load.

I have a Speed Queen washer I bought new in 2016. It's currently in my walkout basement apartment my niece rents. The washer started leaking water in the drum last year. So it hasn't been trouble free but it was a cheap and easy DIY fix. The small capacity of the Speed Queen is what sucks about them.

Had to repair the Speed Queen washer, got a text it was dripping water in the tub. I bought it new in 2016 and the unit is currently the washer for the couple that rents my walkout basement apartment.

Replaced the valve as shown for $36.99 +tax. Ordered yesterday on Amazon and delivered today. The solenoids have made in Mexico on them and it appeared exactly the same as the original. Took less than 10 minutes to replace. Used new hose grommets. The hoses were new in 2022.

The appliance repair guys don't service LG and Samsung mainly because of parts return.. With GE they can order a couple of possible parts. When they are in they take the take the machine apart, figure out which is the broken part and return the others.

With LG and Samsung there is no returning.

In southern DE the service for LG and Samsung comes from Philadelphia. So not real close.

Speed queen front loaders capacity is not measured in cubic feet it is measured in pounds of clothing. You can stuff that speed queen to the top and shut the front door and it will compress it some more and will come out nice and clean.
You do that to a "higher" capacity other brand washer and it will strip out gears and not wash the clothing.

My next washer and dryer is going to be either speed queen or LG. My new Maytag dryer needed work 3 months after owning and now my washer is making a weird noise???

We grabbed a front load LG washer/dryer set in 2009 and just changed the set out this year so I would say a pretty good run.

We replaced them with a new set of LG's.

I am of the opinion that they make great washer/dryer sets.

My friend was at the dump yesterday and he saw several Maytag dryers that looked new in for recycling. My old gf has a newer one that keeps blowing fuses...
