Just picked up a 2012 Wrangler with the 3.6L V6. I have always used M1 products and wish to continue.

I searched and cannot find a specific discussion on M1 5W30 vs. M1 5W30 extended performance..the EP is about $4/gallon more at Walmart.

If I plan on changing every 7500 miles, which is the better oil to use?

thx

Either will work just fine, IMO the EP is a better product but at 7,500 miles I don't think it will make a lick of difference.

thanks. I did find a couple old threads discussing this. Seemed to be a toss up.

For qt, I will go with the EP unless someone points to a reason not to

Don't bother with EP unless you plan to run a long drain interval. The "regular" M1 5w30 is already quite good.

I have this engine in my Town & Country. I'm most of the way through a 10k run on PU/Wix and intend on sampling after it.

Not M1, but might be worthwhile information.

Agree.....for OCI's between 7500 and 10K, M-1 5w30 will work . For OCI's of 12K to 15K,< EP would be my choice.

What do you estimate your OCI to be? It does not make sense to spend more $$$, when its not necessary.

Suggest a Fram ULTRA filter for either.

Unfortunately this is not an option for the Pentastar engine.

Options that I know of:
Fram Extra Guard
Purolator
PureOne
Wix Regular
STP
Bosch
Mahle
AC Delco

Plus a couple other no names.

I'm currently using Wix on this run and the next 10k run (assuming it looks good after this 10k run) then I might switch to a PureOne or there could be many other options out there. This engine is only 2 model years old still so there is still time for new options.

I wouldn't use Mobil 1, at l least not while under warranty. It doesn't carry the Chrysler MS-6395 spec required for your engine.

I will go with the non EP M1 5W30 given my 7500 miles interval and easy duty cycle (no towing etc).

I ordered Wix filters from Filter1

I wouldn't order too many at a time as I don't know the normal shelf life of the o-ring, however I'm sure some proper o-ring lube would make them last longer than needed.

Well that's something that's never crossed my mind... Shelf life on an oil filter's gasket?

I have probably 6 in my garage for the newer Hondas. Any thought as to how long they might last?

What kind of lube would you recommend?

Once again:

Mobil 1 does not carry the Chrysler MS-6395 spec required for your engine.

That's not saying that M1 will harm your engine, because it most certainly won't. However, for warranty purposes it would be in your best interest to use an oil that carries the proper spec.

Honestly, I have no idea how it would affect a normal oil filter gasket. The gasket on the Pentastar engine is a big o-ring. There are a number of good o-ring lubricant out there to preserve o-rings.

On the otherhand, it may be a moot issue all together.

Use a WIX, NAPA or Mopar filter. If it is under warranty my advise is to use a Chrysler approved oil. If something were to happen they would try and find any reason to void
your claim. Ultra, PP, QSUD or Kendall would serve you just as well as Mobil 1 and would not present any warranty issues.

Either will be fine. The Chrysler manual shows an oil recommendation, not a mandate. The only fluid they require is ATF+4 in the automatic transmissions.

I have a 2014 Wrangler with the same 3.6 and I use Mobil 1 0W-40 with a Mopar filter and it runs great. Before anyone screams about it being too thick take a look at Mobil's recommendation for engine oil in a 2012 VW Routan with the same 3.6. I also run the same 0W-40 in my MINI Cooper S and my Honda Element.

My bad, I don't get to drive anything close to "new" Jeeps. I didn't realize Chrysler had a spec in the manual. I'd follow that spec until it was under warranty.

My old Jeep just specs a 30 grade "API SM". Hah! Easy...

Ah 30 grade, eh?

Reminds me of the time around 1998 or 1999 when a coworker and her husband bought a brand new Dodge with the Cummins diesel. She was telling me about it, and said it had an "8-track." I said, "An 8-track? I knew Dodge was behind the times, but isn't that a little much?" She replied, "A cassette. You know what I mean!"

Welcome to Bitog! You have one of the first 2014 Wranglers off the line. I wasn't aware that VW is using a Chrysler Pentastar engine. Good to know.

Thanks.

The VW Routan is a Chrysler Town & Country in every single way, except Stow and Go and the badging. Even has a Chrysler Corp sticker on the door.

I checked it out, I'm not a mini van guy anymore and had no idea.
