How to compare mowers rated in HP vs ft-lb

the article i listed has a mistake. they say james watt invented the steam engine. this is wrong, james watt made big improvements in steam engines. i ll bet if you looked up the name james watt you will find the truth.

1 ft x 33,000 lbs is the same amount of work as 1000lbs up 33 feet.

Work = force x distance

you are both correct.
 
I'll say it again, compare OPE engines based on displacement. It's the best way to determine real world power.

Yes, there are some differences between flat head and over head valve engines. Might want to give the OHV engine a slight advantage in power at any given RPM.

Even so, when comparing OHV mower or generator engines, compare by displacement.
