Cough cough, have ya seen the amount of oil leaked by big rigs?

So why are the big rigs leaking oil so much? They can't afford the repairs too? [stock putting on flame suit]

That already exists. It's when Kraft looks at the sales figures of its 75 cent boxes of Macaroni and Cheese.

I used to work for Kraft.
In Champaign?

Yes sir.

Yes sir.
I was an electrician there for 6 years or so around 2000.

Enough to look like a rainbow coalition camped the night the first rain of the season.

We get long delays between rain in so cal - so lots of buildup.

First store that comes to mind is AutoZone. Whenever I pull into one the lot is stained with oil and fluids. The trash cans are overflowing with scrap parts and empty containers.

Lol so true. Cans full of wipers when it rains for the first time after a while.

I saw a river of undiluted Dex-Cool running from a puddle when I pulled in yesterday. Maybe a half gallon. Sucks to be that guy.

So true...

When you subsidize poverty and failure, you get more of both.

There is a correlation between the income levels of the patrons and the amount of dripped oil you see in the parking lot of any store.
Walmart probably has middle class shoppers more toward the 50K family income level than the 100K level. These folks drive what they can afford and if the old ride leaks a little oil, then what can you do? We've been in some higher end Walmart locations and their parking lots were pristine.
More universal stores, like Kroger, vary widely by the areas in which they're located. Those in higher income areas have pristine parking lots to go along with the pristine interiors of the stores while those in lower income areas will have plenty of oil stains in their parking lots as well as less well cared for interiors.
The parts chains don't count since they are usually free standing small box stores that appeal to a retail market driving something old enough to need parts. Many also work on their cars in these parking lots to include oils changes and nobody worries too much about spilling oil on someone else's concrete, and these lots are usually concrete and not asphalt, the better to support jack stands on a hot day.

Right!

According to the AAA, 2/3 of vehicle owners can't afford the/any repairs on their vehicles.

But, they can afford cigarettes, beer/liquorice, illegal drugs and IPhone 10 etc.

And don't forget lotto tickets and casinos.

I think the phenomenon of working in the part store parking lot is due to two things:

1.The folks live in apartments and the apartment owners don't want car maintenance going on in their parking lots.
2. If you tried to work on your vehicle, every Jimmy Bob in the hood would drop by to give you advice.

Probably many more reasons as well.

I went on a 200 mile drive and had a caliper blow out. Stopped at the local AutoZone and got it warranted and replaced it out in their parking lot.

Ah, we love to mock the stereotype again...

I see stains in all different types of parking lots, whether it is a good area or not. And sadly, age of the car usually has little with what happens to it (seen new cars leaking stuff)

Just in my neighborhood: my 3 cars are old: but none of them leak. Down mt street is a beat up GNC jimmy-leaves no stains....but my neighbor a few doors down has issues (and leaking stuff) from his 2016 Escape.

All walks of life...all different stuff can happen (even in the parking lot of an Autozone!)

Lots of choices too!

You can take good care of a vehicle but if you drive it long enough it can develop oil leaks just due to age and mileage.

Those kind of repairs are generally a lot more expensive than the worth of the vehicle. It either case (repair or buy another another vehicle) it costs thousands which many do not have sitting around available for such a repair. Often times these oil leaking vehicles can be driven for a long time assuming the oil reservoir is topped off when it gets low.

Yes....all cars belonging to poor, middle class, and wealthy CAN leak oil. But it's not a stereotype to understand why Walmart lots are often the nastiest in this regard. Just a look inside the store at the patrons can tell you volumes about the habits of such people.
