Maybe HKS doesn't have as good a reputation in the USA as it does in the UK/Japan/Australia/NZ?

I would pay extra to have a Zero Sports or STi oil filter on my car if it was a performance orientated vehicle.

$30 is not that expensive for a filter in the UK.

I have paid nearly that much for an OE filter before.

For racing the tapping plate has to be extra strong, those kind of inlet holes would make it weaker, all else equal. Same for the center tube. I think Fram made a point of it somewhere about their racing filters.

I run specialty oil filters that are made in Japan with the internal magnets.

Majority of the aftermarket oil filters are contract manufactured in Japan by Nitto Kogyo, SPK, or Tokyo Roki.
