I think my Geo Prizm had it's Delco alternator replaced by the original owner at about 90K miles. The replacement has been going for about 128K miles if I remember correctly.

Old 98 Civic we donated to nephew, 228K miles and still original alternator.

Maybe cause I never degreased the engine and hosed it down.

Last week was the first time that I had ever hosed it down.

(3) honda sub compact diesel
(4) volkswagen rabbit/golf with a small engine such as 1.4 petrol

You're advocating that the OP shy away from Korean cars, but you're recommending a Suzuki? You're aware that Suzuki cars are rebadged Daewoos, right? It's been that way for awhile now too, ever since GM got ahold of both companies.

Original alternators on all MBs but the 83, so hat means 20+ years and 235k on one, 12 years and 200k on the other. The 83's bosch rebuid was at about 160k.

The toyota has its original alt at 215k. The others are all OE, but thats not of interest, that is only 1500-160k for us right now in our fleet.

The BMW and integra were the only cars that we had to replace alternators at low mileage. The BMW had a diode go bad, the alternator worked, but the battery would drain if it was turned off... Dont know what the issue was with the integra, it jut didnt work.

Too late to edit my own post but after some internet consulting, I see there are some genuine Suzukis in their lineup. My bad.

give the TOYOTA Yaris Liftback or sedan a test drive . You can get them at a little above invoice at some dealers . I think the $500 rebate has been discontinued . The L.B. is $12,950 and got it for less than $12,000 ( no rebate then ) . We have the '08 Liftback with a 5 speed that averages about 39 m.p.g.. Put PENNZOIL Platinum 5w-30 and REDLINE MT-90 gear oil in at around 1,500 miles . The best gas mileage was 44.6 (1st fillup in NOV. '07 ) and just got 44.15 recently . Mileage will vary on driving habits , environment , etc.. The payment is less than $226 a month . So you get savings all around . GOOD LUCK
