Does fuel economy matter to you at all?

I have never cared or bought a vehicle solely based on fuel economy.

It’s a factor, I commute about 50 miles daily for work.

Not so much a factor for me work is 12 miles one way.

The Malibu does pretty good and the Trans Am will pull down 26 to 28 in sixth gear on the highway.

Sorta. When I bought my truck I knew it wasn't going to be a daily commuter, so mpg wasn't highest on the list. When I bought my last Camry I was focused more on purchase price. As a result I'm not really situated for the next time gas spikes--my Camry seems stuck at 30-31mpg and my truck is 16-17mpg--then again, I put maybe 5k/year on the truck so I kinda don't care.

Do wish my Camry was a stick, I bet I'd have about 4 more mpg.
