Sorry to take so long to come back with this info, the cheapo socks I have been wearing to bed lately are the Polar Extreme brand.
I'm sure they have zero wool given the price I paid for them, but they have a durable woven outer layer and very soft fleece inside. They are thick enough that I'd probably hate wearing them inside a shoe or boot, but I think they're great for sleeping.
