Does anyone know the capabilities of various oil ratings?

For instance based on CAT oil change requirements:
(They prefer you go buy fuel consumption instead of mileage)
CF-4: 70 gal of fuel use per quart of oil
CG-4: 75 gal of fuel use per quart of oil
CI-4: ?
CI-4 Plus: ?

In otherwords given a Hypothetical Truck with 10 Qt Oil capacity and 16 MPG average:

CF-4: 70 x 10 x 16 = 11,200 mi
CG-4: 75 x 10 x 16 = 12,000 mi
CI-4: ?
CI-4 Plus: ?

I wonder how much better CI-4 and "CI-4 Plus" are than CG-4?

I wonder about something along the lines of:
CI-4: (80) = 12,800 mi
CI-4 Plus: (85) = 13,600 mi

Thoughts?

To throw a monkey-wrench into that, the CI-4 and CI-4+ also have to deal with increased soot loading from mandatory emissions requirements in HD diesel motors. Eg: EGR.

So, depending on application, the CI-4+ may provide much better overall engine protection, but no increase in OCI.

Gene,
interesting "rule of thumb".

My Nissan specifies CF-4, and has a 5 quart sump.

Your figure gives a 12-15k km OCI.

Nissan specify 10,000km.

My "rule of thumb" is actually CAT's but it is for USA "Low Sulphur" Fuel. I am not sure how this relates to "High Sulphur" Fuel or the "Ultra Low Sulphur" European Fuel or what category Australian Fuel falls into.

Gene,
(I think) Oz dropped it from 500 to 50ppm, making it low sulfur, and there is to be a new spec out soon to go the next step.

Doug can sort me out if I'm wrong.

Amazing to see the piles of sulfur around Newcastle.
