Broken Tube on Intake Resonator?

In the process of removing stuff to change the plugs in my Lexus LS400 I broke 2 of the little plastic tubes that have rubber hoses attached to them. I was able to superglue one back but the other just won't cooperate. Is this something I could just plug or is it important to the point it must be attached? I tried to trace it around but I figured some of you could help. The engine appears to run fine without it being attached but that was just a 5 mile run to the store.

The doggone resonator is almost $300 to replace

What do you experts suggest? I could start a gofundme page.....

With a bit of ingenuity that can probably be repaired easily.
Find a piece of rubber hose that fits snug in the hole in the resonator.
Insert said hose into hose going to resonator. Seal with gasket sealer/glue/3m 5200.

Go to the plumbing section of Home Depot, Lowes, and see if they have something in brass that could be attached to side of plastic housing with sealant/adhesive.

Both of those ideas are good ones. Just use some imagination and you'll be fine.
We call that improvising. I've often found stuff in my own garage to fix things such as in your situation.

Thanks you guys! You are GREAT!!!!

Now I can go and have a relaxing lunch. Well, at least until I remind myself I must continue my spark plug install.

Go with a male brass barb fitting; tap the hole for npt threads.

That way it won't leak and possibly throw a CEL.

If you can't tap it, maybe use a good epoxy.

CAI = Cold Air Intake

AKA Fool/Money Separator....

Though, in this case, it's a cheaper option than the factory replacement part.

Gotcha! I had already been eased of that possible solution. I'm gonna mow a little grass and head to the hardware store before 5.

Slick 50 is proof that while you can fool some of the people some of the time, eventually you run out of fools.

The nicest/easiest thing about a repair such as yours is that it doesn't need special tools, machining or engineering. I mean, you could temporarily duck tape or super glue it til you get around to fixing it or getting to the store for some parts to fab it.

That's what I was imagining, but couldn't think of the term. I just searched Amazon for "bulkhead fitting 3/8 hose barb" and found a bunch. This would be the easiest solution if you don't have a tap & die set, or don't want an excuse to buy one.

I just hand screwed some bolts in both holes for now. Super glue didn't cut the mustard on this one...

I think the pic is deceiving. I don't think it is 3/8 but I may be wrong. I think it is smaller but we will find out tomorrow.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.. Even the CAI!

How do I make the hole in the plastic resonator larger? Here is a pic of the part that is slight too big.

How much bigger is that part? Can you use a heat gun to warm up that broken hole before shoving the barb inside it? Obviously you don't want to break that part. Other option is to remove some of the brass on the first barb or two to reduce it enough that it goes in. You could even use a hacksaw to cut a slit into the first barb that it will crush down a bit before inserting.

Time to macgiver it. Keep us posted.

I was aiming on getting the screw part into the plastic part. And putting the barbed into the rubber hose.
