BOSCH - opened up - ADBV ?

This Bosch came off my 02 Impala. The filter and oil had. about 4K miles, oil was Valvoline syn blend, 5w30. Motor has 75k miles on it. I found a couple of holes in the ADBV, and I don't see how I would have done it when I opened it. I cut around the bottom with a dremel tool, being careful not to disturb the filter itself. I was not expecting to find that. The media part looked to be in good shape, although it is darker than I thought it would be. I don't know about any of these filters these days.

The tears in the ADBV look to be where it gets pinched between the base plate and the media assy base end cap. Are there any sharp edges on the metal pieces in this area?

Not satisfied with just extra holes in the media, Puro made filters now feature holes in the ADBV too? Oh my word....

did you put a screwdriver in to pry the top off after cutting?

my guess would be incomplete/flawed when it came out of the mold and made it thu QC.

while they do seem like cut marks I find it hard to imagine when or where it would have gotten cut.... unless it was a purolator inside job

I had a Bosch 3331 filter that was the same way with the adbv.

Maybe they are trying to increase the flow rate of the filter.

I examined the area where the valve is placed, and I didn't find any burrs, or sharp edges that might cut the valve itself.

No, I didn't pry it apart. I had it cut to where I could fold the base plate back and forth a couple of times, and it broke off. I didn't put anything in there to pry it open.

Did you have any start up noise with it?

This engine is kind of noisy on startup no matter what oil, or filters I've used. It always makes a rattling noise for a little bit. AFter it gets past that, it runs very quiet.
