And Mobil 1 is overpriced for group 3 but still a good oil. Does not matter where they get the base stock from, its the blending process that is important. Where do you think exxonmobil get there GTL base stocks from?
 
M1 oils are not grp 3. M1s base stock is a blend of PAO, esters, and other base stocks. Amsoil is not 100% PAO, and has other base stocks as well, for a better performance oil. Proprietary yo know.

Mobil 1 is label in Germany SHC synthetic. But maybe in US they are not hydrocracked. Do you have any pdf of the basestocks?

Some rather rudimentary and vague information regarding the approximate amount of PAO in some of their lubes can be gleaned from their MSDS sheets. A few of their oils are majority PAO, others, not so much.
 
Who cares if it's Group III or PAO or Ester or a combination or what percentages. If it does the job and can be verified by a lab does it really matter?
