5w20 blend vs 5w30 full synthetic

It's time for one of the twice a year oil changes on my 08 V6 Mariner with 150k miles. Most of the changes have been 5w20 blend but on occasion I'll use 5w30 full synthetic. Any problems, is it worth the extra?

I see no issues using it instead of the 5w 20 syn. blend.

I'd go with the full synth. Blends are just basically "today's conventionals".

These days the syn blends really aren’t any cheaper than a 5w-30 or 5w-20 full syn. Why not use either weight in full syn?

Yep, you can generally find full syn on rebate cheaper than Syn Blend or Conventional.

If you DIY this is true. However most oil change shops charge double for Full Syn over blend.

fair point. Been so long since I paid for an oil change I kinda forget that. Can you bring your own oil to one of these places?

If someone wants to bring your own oil, why not just change it themselves? If I ran a shop, I wouldn't do an oil change if someone brought their own oil. Little money to be made, why do it?

I'm not sure if walmart still allows you to bring your own and they'll install it for a small fee, their cheap oil change services are already loss leaders to get you in the store and buy more stuff while you're there waiting so that's why they'd do it.
